- lrb_03MemberI've heard of too much anecdotal evidence to take notice of anyone poo pooing it. I was one of the lucky ones with neulasta - minimal bone pain. Wonder if it would would for the ongoing pain after prolia???
- ZoffielMember@pinkclovers The science behind it is that the antihistamines reduce bone oedema. There have been studies done in the UK, but they were inconclusive. It's a $1 a day solution that is out of patent to a problem that not everyone experiences so it's not going to be very high on the list of research priorities.
I didnt have flue symptoms so much as bone pain. The first time i had that shot was my last round of chemo in 2006. ( I spent two days lying on the floor unable to bear the weight of a blanket) When my cancer came back I did a bit of research after a disastrous first round of chemo and started taking it. It helped. Mxx - PinkcloverssMember@Zoffiel thats interesting. I brought that up with my pharmacist at the infusion centre and she said she didn't know why claratyne would work for symptoms. Its mainly the aches and lethargic feeling of it..dont actually have the runny nose etc thank goodness. But either way..good to know, have missed my window for taking claratyne it seems. Can only try for next round :(
- ZoffielMemberYep, Claratyne (loratadine) can be helpful and is routinely prescribed in some practices. You do need to check with your oncologist; some of them poo poo the idea, but they've never had a total body toothache from the neulasta. You need to start taking it the day of chemo and keep taking it for a week. It won't help if you wait until the pain starts. Cheap and (for me) effective.
- Kiwi_AngelMember@Pinkcloverss. I had terrible bone pin from this and the first round I didn’t know what to expect so only had Panadol osteo which did nothing so it was a miserable couple of days. When I saw my oncologist the following week I got a script for panadine forte and for a couple of endone. The panadine forte worked quite well and I only used a couple of the endone. @Zoffiel swears by antihistamines but run anything by your oncologist first.
- lrb_03MemberI have read on otherr sites that loratadine (a specific antihistamine) for a couple of days before & after the injections is helpful. Check with your team bifore taking it, though
- Blossom1961MemberI would drag myself outside and go for a half hour STROLL, not very fast but it did the trick. It didn’t get rid of the flu symptoms but it did ease them. Big hugs.
- NefertariMemberBy flu like symptoms, do you mean running nose, sneezing, chills, bone aches etc? I had them all through my AC treatment. I never associated it with the neulasta, I always thought it was chemo, I'm so ignorant haha
The only thing that helped me was bed rest and a heatpack. I spent a lot of time resting and drinking water.
I even have them from time to time on the Paclitaxol and I don't have the Neulasta injection now, it makes me keep checking my temperature, which is normal. Good luck, hope it settles down for you.
