Mouth sore, tongue sore and nausea...any suggestions?
I am using nilstat, biotene, bi-carb and salt...some relief but open to any advice.
Nausea - is wanting to stick around. I really donʻt want to take any more medication. Have focused on breathing, mindfulness, qi gong, walking, music. My fluid intakes have missed a few beats too.
Itʻs only a hurdle, will get over it...yes?

- tismeMember5 years up this past September oncologist wants me to finish the scripts of anastrazole then stop. this last year has been "difficult" with side effects. Now I find I have mouth sores. tried betadine , didnt help
- TasiaMemberStarted Taxol yesterday after a few setbacks. I am continuing with a similar regime and adding a few extras as suggested by Onc for potential side effects Taxol brings on. thank you for all your positive encouragement x
- MicheleRMemberI had a terrible time with ac. Taxol seems easier. Everyone is different but I think it is slightly less strong. I still have oral thrush but its manageable. Hope you get similar relief
- FLCloverMember@Tasia it’s heavy stuff, no doubt. It’s a position absolutely no one wants to ever be in. Keep trying your best to alleviate the nasty side effects, and keep in mind that this is only temporary. Hope you’re feeling better ❤️
- TasiaMemberOnc wasnʻt sure whether to proceed or can it the last AC cycle - fever, blood clots and unwellness all factors. Delayed the last cycle and with antibiotics and blood thinners plunged into the final cycle last week. Up to 3rd and final round of antibiotics.Today is Day 6 and although an improvement to yesterday - havenʻt bounced back as I had hoped.
Mouth/Tongue regime
Almost hourly brush teeth, and use bi-carb/salt mix to mouth wash, cleanse tongue and gargle
Biotene mouthwash and gel in between and as needed
@FLClover bought and using the Aloe Vera juice twice a day. Swirl it around in my mouth first and then swallow. I find it is offering some relief and keeping the nasty tongue sores at bay.
Nausea
Thatʻs still a battle. Using ginger and smaller sips of water, hydralyte, anything that isnʻt room temperature seems to be easier to consider. Food and fluid intake is not my best work this round - a constant feeling sick. Short walks or some sort of gentle physical movement takes the pressure of the sick feeling. Impacts on every other aspect of functionality and holding positivity.
No denying the transformation in mind, body, spirit, soul...will start Paclitaxel in a few weeks. I wonder how ʻmeʻ will respond to it? Frightening when you step back from a reality which appears to ʻyoursʻ and yet you are a total stranger to it..... - Kiki_Dances60MemberHi @Tasia
I feel for you! I have also found days 4 and 5 after AC particularly hard. Very low on energy and feeling terrible! I got plantar fasciitis (inflamed heel) a couple of weeks ago (probably from too much lying around), and that has meant no walks, either, which is very hard.
Mouth ulcers: I have been gargling with 1 teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of bicarb morning and night since I started chemo (AC x 4 over 8 weeks).
Nausea: I have found drinking water helps with my nausea, also around half an hour after I wake, I need to eat something (it also was what I had to do to stave off morning sickness). Drinking a few drops of apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water before I eat first thing. I also found raw celery helpful. It is cold and full of water! Eating protein every 2-3 hours works for me: that could be a cup of warm milo, some nuts, some toast or crackers with cheese, some chicken or miso soup, celery or carrot sticks with dip. Now and then if I'm feeling nauseous I eat a piece of glacé ginger. After bad thrush in my 30s and while pregnant I know I need to stay away from sugary things, but I will sometimes have some cordial in mineral water for variety!
Reflux: I take slippery elm capsule 5 minutes/just before I eat a main meal. Plus all of the above.
I've just had my last AC treatment, and in 10 days start Taxol weekly for 12 weeks. - LizetteHMemberYou ladies here are wonderful, such helpful lived experience with handling the nausea. . I don’t find the forum easy to navigate but that’s probably because I’m not feeling very well. Day 5 seems to be my worst. Crushed ice is helping. Feel sick but curiously hungry too, so weird.

Hi @Tasia,
I hope you are feeling much better and improving. Reading your posts gave me an impression that you are resourceful and courageous. I have some suggestions and hoping it will help you too.
Nausea - ginger candy ( you can buy from health shop) or ginger tea
Dry mouth - I use Oral 7 Mouthwash ( you can buy from Chemist warehouse) this does not have alcohol and helps to moisturise the mouth.
Also, sucking some lozenges can help increase saliva production which helps soothe dry mouth too
Diarrhoea or feeling fatigued - I drink electrolyte such as Hydralyte to help balance and restore the minerals I loss because of diarrhoea or too much sweating. It also helps to relax my muscles when I have cramping.
Dry and itchy skin - try Moogoo lotion or La Roche Posay. I apply the lotion all over my skin while it is still damp to help with itch because of dry skin.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. - FLCloverMemberHi @Tasia
It sounds like you’re doing quite well in terms of what you’re eating and drinking. I have the same thing you have for breakfast. Actually we do a lot of the same things. Meditation, walking, music are all fantastic for the soul, therefore for your immune system, therefore for your health.
You are however having heavy poisons injected in you at the moment, so understandably they take their toll on your body. Plus you’re working. A lot of women work during treatment and it’s a great distraction, but other factors are important such as how much you love your job, how stressful it is and when the last time you had a proper break was. It’s so important to give our soul a rest, just as much as it is for our body. Keep doing what you’re doing, trust that the universe has your back and will be gentle on you, and you will be stronger than before eventually. Sending lots of healing energy your way 🍀❤️ - MicheleRMemberHopefully you got this sorted out. I just suffered the same. There is a mouth wash called Difflam which im finding excellent.
