Have just bought myself a cold press juicer, cost a bit but the nutrient factor of pressed fruit and vges is not lost to heating you follow instructions.

I had a bad bout of Obstipation, ooee it was bad and the experience taught or should say reinforced my beleif that if a Doctor doesn't listen change Doctors!

Women know their bodies better and being patted on the head by a Doctor who has just misdiagnosed you is very unfulfilling. Ask lots of questions and if you do not know what to ask us here for help with that. 

I still take Flaxseed and it is still keeping the worst SFX of 'chemo' at bay.

As Chemotherapy wrecks ones veins can I make a suggestion that you explore the option of having one inserted prior too the start of Chemo then you dont have as many problems especially if it becomes necessary after your Immune system has been blitzed. 

Mine got inserted further down the track and I have just spent 6 days in hospital on Vancomycin and Pipracillin to get the post op infection under control. My kidneys survived!

This caused a delay again to my getting my last Chemo..mutter mumble..clodhopper!   Have a great day folks. Joanna

You are amazing.I agree with you that the mind plays an important role in recovery and health.I believe that prolonged stress may contribute to cancer growth.I believe that peace of mind is even more important than diet and exercise.During my 2 episodes of bc,I read alot of "cancer"books.The 2 that I've found interesting were"Biology of Belief"by Bruce Lipton(a scientist) and "Foods that fight cancer"by 2 scientists.I have destressed my life,have a fairly healthy diet but I need to work on the exercise.Joanna,you are abit of an inspiration in that regard.Yes,would love the broccoli recipe-always on the lookout for tasty vegie ideas.You sure don't look like a 63 yr old in your pic. I'm sorry you have to contend with secodaries and chemo -you have a wonderful attitude.I hope you continue to look and feel well.

It is good toknow that you have that sort of resource to refer to. I actually checked with a Pharmacist regarding the Flaxseed and it is not incompatible with chemo. Vit C and Garlic can cause problems. But upping you intake of Broccoli will aid in reducing Oestrogen which comes from the presence of diindol-methane. The Broccoli should be steamed or cooked in some way, not raw.  I have a recipe that uses it which is yummy and healthy. Let me know if you would like it. A comprehensive list of Alternative treatment would be a handy tool but I can see it will take a long time as much of the research the has been peer reviewed and done in an acceptable fashion will be neededand confirmed by scientific study with regards to different treatments ie chemotherapuetic  agents and adjuvant treatments. A co-operative of researchers might help with  that aim. Cheers

PS I am on Pactilaxel and Gemcytabine and do not even have to use anti-nausea tabs and my DAA firends are amazed at how well I look and I am still Paddling 42-38 strokes rate and cover a Kilometre in just over 5 mins. Not bad for a 63 year old with muliple secondaries.

It's not just supplements,it's some foods too that are a no no  if you are on chemo or hormone therapy.My sister is a naturapath and a nutritionist,lectures at uni and even she says it's a minefield.I'm in the medical profession(nurse) so we are going to put our heads together,do research and see if we can't come up with a list of do's and don't's with regards food and supplements.

I have done theTamoxifen and Arimidex thing and neither drug was tolerable. I have a friend who is on Aromasin and its side effects are making her life a misery. The choice to take these treatments lie with each person and in terms of prearation for Arimidex would be to ensure the systems that can react to it are as healthy as they can be. Reducing processed food intake and switching to Fresh vegeies ++ and Yoghurts to increase your Calcium, reduce your fluoride intake if you can as it displaces Calcium and can cause brittle bones.  Any sort of pain is tolerated to a wide variety degrees. Bone pain can come from inflammation and an anti-oxident can reduce that. A non genetically modified flax seed in liquid or capsule form can assist and it benefits combating the effects of stress. Yhe biggest factor is mental resistence. We have minds that can increase or decrease our perception of problems. The reason Doctors often do not mention all the potential side effects is because some people can psychenically develop a lot of mentioned symptoms. My years as a Nurse saw that happen many times. I believe if you follow a Mantra of Mind over Matter your health, your immune system and pain management beomes much easier to increase its efficiency. Simply put; if you don't mind then it doen't matter! Boom Boom! Smile and remember Cancer doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger! Mieke/Joanna
