- LocksleyMember@iserbrown I've been taping my thumb during the day. I have a splint to wear at night. I was meant to get new script filled today but I haven't been able to find it. I'm a bit stressed at work I went 2 days without Ai hoping I could find script. Didn't want to go another day without drugs so I can try again next month.

Has your trigger finger settled?
Did the Onc consider changing medication?
It's certainly a strange sensation when the trigger starts
Take care - GE57MemberI was on Letrozole for 9 long months. Apart from joint and leg pain, I had trigger finger in my middle fingers. It would wake me up in the middle of the night and trigger often during the day. It was extremely painful and often had me in tears. I too was referred to hand therapist who showed me exercises to do. It didn’t help that my onco wouldn’t acknowledge that it could be the Letrozole causing it. I argued to stop it in the end and the trigger finger stopped too.
- LocksleyMemberI'm seeing oncologist next week to ask to try another drug.
I've also got an apt with hand therapist booked. I got a gp care plan which used to be bulk billed but I have to pay a bit to see hand therapist.
I've tried a few creams to help. I think they help for a short time.
I'm wearing a brace at home when I remember.
I don't want to have a cortisone injection.
Ha ha @Halla could be how I'm holding phone as well. - arpieMemberMine has come back a bit just now as I am in a much colder area …. But I expect it to lessen when back on home turf again … I hope so anyway! It is my R/H ring finger! My thumbs are going fine just now but have been extremely painful in the pastAll the best @l@Locksley - I hope you are going OK just now xx. There is a wonderful cream from Chemists called Percutane that is made in NZ (Damn! I meant to buy some more!) and it is great on many aches & pains - just don’t scratch your nose or bum or wipe your eye after using it …. I usually put a small plastic bag over my hand, to rub it on, turn it inside out & then biff it (for Voltaren gel too!!) ;)
- HallaMemberHi locksley how are you? We were diagnosed around the same time so are on a similar timeline. Yes I got trigger finger on my middle finger, which would lock and then flick up when I opened it. At the same time I got pain in my opposite hand thumb joint. Both have settled but not completely gone. I think it may have been caused by the way I was holding my phone so I changed the way I hold it.
- Julez1958MemberHi @Locksley
i got trigger thumb in my tight thumb after about 6 months on Letrazole.
I saw a hand surgeon and he said he could operate but that a cortisone injection might make it settle down.
I had the cortisone injection and also had a few sessions with a hand physiotherapist and it settled down quite a bit.I found the hand brace made no difference to me but it helps some - worth trying.
Trigger thumb and trigger finger are recognised side effects of the AIs ( including Letrazole).
Changing to a different AI sometimes works too.
I have heard that some oncologists poo poo this side effect so if you think you are not getting empathy maybe get a second opinion. - arpieMemberDefinitely @Locksley - but mine was my middle & ring fingers for the 'trigger' back when I was on Letrozole (I had to use my other hand to 'straighten it' when it locked in the bent position) ...... but my thumbs were immensely painful, tho I'd had that 5 years earlier too, from my arthritis - the AI meds just made it worse ....
I did get a thumb brace from the Chemist that has a bit of metal along the thumb to prevent it bending & hurting. After a couple months of wearing that, it settled down. It comes & goes and currently I am not in pain or discomfort.
I DID have some pain 2 weeks ago from (possibly) too much fishing & I rubbed some CBD balm on it (that had ginger & capsicum in it) and that settled it down by the time I went to bed!
Take care & all the best .... maybe some ibuprofen or similar (with meals) would help too? - iserbrownMemberOh yes it was a weird sensation!
It would just happen!
Bone pain in the legs was the most wearing for me! I'm now gone back to Tamoxifen and hopefully that will take me to the recommended 10 years
Take care - Cath62MemberHi, I have been taking Letrozole for about a year after changing from tamoxifen. I had alot of pain in hands including my thumb. Maybe this is different to your experience I would wake up at 3am with my hands all crunched up and in pain. I had to do alot of opening and closing my hands to get them moving. My GP recommended fish oil and it's ok to take from my oncologist perspective. Well my hand pain settled. I still have a little stiffness in the morning but it is nothing like it was. Hope your situation improves for you.
