Hair regrowth after chemo

I'm 6 months post chemo for Breast Cancer and my problem is my hair has grown back completely opposite to what it was, and it looks like a bad home perm.  My question is - if I shave my head again, will it grow back differently?
  • @survivor2017  I've been getting into my son's hair wax as without it I've got a bit of a mohawk thing going on.  Makes a mess of my glasses when I shove them on top of my head, though (but good to be able to do that again as couldn't with a wig or turban and without, they'd just fall straight off).

  • It's good to know there are other ladies like me with the granny perm.  What I've decided to do is keep getting it trimmed into a very short "pixie" style and maybe use some product to mess it up a bit.  Thanks to everyone with the grey curls - I don't feel so alone!
  • The first lot of hard curly hair was just rubbish on me. It didn't feel right after having dead straight hair and I kept it very short for a start having a trim regularly. After a while I let it grow and went right through winter with straggly half curly hair but once all the layers came down I got my own regular cut down and it is not curly any more. In fact I think it's darker with less gray now, bonus.
  • I ended up keeping mine  short after seeing a photo of me with the bad perm hair ...honestly I looked like I was auditioning for Mrs Brown's Boys. Anyway I decided to keep it short. My hairdresser cut it choppy and it it looked very stylish. The top is less curly now 2 years on but I still have quite a bit at the back so at this stage I'm keeping it with my short piecy look.
  • Look up curly hair specialist on google. There are a few in Brisbane. My daughter goes to a specialist in Melbourne as she has natural tight ringlets andhe does a wonderful job.
  • How do I find a hairdresser who specialises in post chemo horrible hair? I'm so desperate, I'll even travel far.  I live on the Gold Coast.  Help!
  • Ah the bad home perm! People wonder what on earth has got into you. Not unusual and it will gradually improve! I was never game to cut it off - no guarantee it won't grow back just as frizzy, and more time waiting. Trimming as often as you can however did seem to help, so perhaps try that instead? Mine went chalk white at first too - I looked like a poodle!!
