First chemo!
Hi everyone!
I had my first chemo session today, starting with AC. Though I was warned and given a strong anti-nausea tablet before they started, I was absolutely not prepared for the crippling nausea that has ensued!
I was fine throughout the treatment but on the way home it got worse and I've had waves that have had me over the toilet, sweating and gagging (but no actual vomit yet!). I have taken emexlon which seems to work for about 5 minutes and then the relief wears off. If it continues I will of course bring it up with my team but in the meantime, does anybody have any home remedies that have helped keep the nausea at bay?
Stay strong team!

- LelleMember@jm13 hope you're feeling a bit better! I've also had a bad few days and have ended up with antibiotics for a throat infection. Luckily not hospitalised although I was close when my temperature decided to spike this morning! I never used the cold cap and shaved my head before I started chemo. I've spent the last few days lint roller-ing my hair as it falls out- SO satisfying!
@Ausmum2 With you on all the ginger! I have started taking something stronger for my nausea which actually stopped it completely but I'm still on the ginger tea and ginger biscuits constantly! And peppermint tea has been helping with some bloating I've been experiencing recently. I think my life generally revolves around what tea to drink now (although I am from England originally so I suppose it always has 😂)
Hope you're all staying positive and strong x - arpieMemberoh bugger @jm13 - you've really drawn the short straw. :( I hope it settles soon. Are you in Melbourne? (You can add your 'city/town' in your Profile ....)
Well done @Ausmum2 - so glad the ginger & peppermint is helping with the nausea xx
take care, ladies xx - Ausmum2MemberHi @Lelle and ladies
I am not that much further on the journey but have done my AC and I’m into the Paclitaxel.Like others recommend, I’ve found ginger is the answer. I’m eating so much ginger I think I might be ginger.😂 however I have found it has completely kept the nausea at bay. I probably drink around 1.5 litres of ginger tea a day, along with some sort of “ginger sweet” is eaten everyday (gingerbread or ginger-bread, ginger pudding, ginger crumble, I’ve found a way to add ginger to lots of things). My other one is peppermint. If I’m not ginger tea in peppermint, and adding mint to salads, veggies, burying it in lots of places.Good luck! - jm13MemberThanks @arpie, arm feeling a lot better, not jumping when something touches it.I used cold cap on first chemo, 1st July, had tender scalp last few days. Woke to whole scalp pain at 4am or so, now I’m draped in falling hair. No hairdressers open. It’s past awful.
- arpieMemberSo sorry about the low counts and the hospital trips @jm13 ... hoping it comes good soon xx
Well done doing Rock and Roll ... that would really give your shoulder a work out!
Take care and all the best with your treatment xxx - jm13MemberPort went in and i apparently fell asleep during the procedure. Ha ha.
arm feeling better, at least I Can touch area without feeling lightening bolt.
my white blood cells dropped to 1.1 so ended up in hosp thurs fri nights.
had injection to boost production. Hopefully will be up by next chemo on Thursday. Ever onward. We will get better. Xx - jm13MemberThanks @Mazbeth. Going to be strange when my hair goes! With covid restrictions I don’t think I can go to hairdresser. But on bright spots de we laughingly call my hair the family weed, as it grows so fast!!! 🤪
- jm13MemberMy port is in, impressive bruise. Ended up In emergency, very low white cells. Going to have the injection to boost them. I suppose just another hurdle. Stay well
- MazbethMemberGreat to hear things are better this time @Lelle. I totally agree that the port makes things so much easier. I found that if I had any issues - no matter how small, I let the medical team know and they always had great suggestions to help. I hope your port insertion goes well @jm13. I lost my hair, but it is now one year since I finished chemo and my hair is pretty much in a bob style now. Sending you hugs girls x

so very happy for you. You have been in my thoughts.
I had pre port blood test today. Yes port in tomorrow.
Yay for you you are having a better time. Happy dance for you.
my gp put me ondansetron anti nausea meds. Fabulous things.I will check about shoulder movement with docs tomorrow. We dance rock n roll so I still want to move properly. My upper left arm still hurts when I move it after having a lymph seroma drained. Pretty aggravating at times.
Ihad cold cap for first chemo, but just can’t face it again. Body hair dropping now so I guess I have to toughen up and chop my hair! Havnt had short hair since I was a kid!
hang in there. We will get well.Go girl😘
