Arimidex
I have been reading through the blogs about Arimidex and found them very interesting. I have been on Arimidex for 6 months and up until 4 weeks ago, "side affects free" - until now that is.
I now have what appears to be the usual aches and pains in the legs and numbness in the hands, tiredness and headaches, so I guess I didn't escape at all I am just like all my other Arimidex sisters.
I will have to mention this to my oc next visit, but as so many others have said before at least I am here reading the experiences of others. It does help.

Sign in to react to this post Hello Sue, I am so glad to hear from you. I saw the Breast Surgeon on Monday anbd has recommended that I have a bilateral masectomy. (I previously had a lumpecomy and wide excision before I was tested positive for braca 2) At first they said that it wasn't necessary as I was being looked after then the other other day the Surgeon explained that if I got another cancer it would be agressive and harder to treat a second time. Hence I am booked in to have surgery in the next 3 Months. On top of that my blood pressure went up dangerously high and I am on a different blood pressure tablet that has brought it down but I also have bi-lateral hyponephisis and have to see a urologist to possibly put a stent in to unblock my urether. Needless to say, I was very overwhelmed and a bit teary on Monday Night. I have had so much support from my Friends offering their help that I am amazed and have accepted the decision to have my breasts removed as I know it is the best thing to do.

Howdy shortlionruth!
I just decided to check the Arimidex blog after chatting to a few women in hospital as we waited for 'breast squash and steam-roller' treatment.
They both said they'd changed due to the joint pain etc. As i am also prob high risk (mum, dad and grandfather died of various cancers) I read that Arimidex gave the best 'coverage'....so am happy to keep on it.
Anyway your list of symptoms had me nodding 'yes' to most of them so now I understand a little more and realise that it's not just me being lazy, hypochondriacal and whingy - that the feelings are actually from the medication and I'm normal!! (this may be a surprise to hubby!) I do find the permanent mild feeling of nausea annoying and think my weight gain is worse due to the fact that I'm eating way too much to try and stop feeling 'yuk' -obviously a futile excercise! thanks -Sue

Ah Chris -must chat re this at our Perth group get together! I didn't know about the weight gain someone mentioned -could explain my struggle! -but as well as joint pain do you know if insomnia is a side affect?

I am seeing my osteopath, she really helps with some of the joint aches and pains just by loosening me up. I take Panadol osteo every day, sometimes twice , if the pain is really screamng. I once thought that I would never be able to manage living with chronic pain, and now I am. Funny what you can get used to.
I guess you can put up with anything if it has the potential to save your life.

Hi Ruth
I'm going well thanks, jusr dealing with chronic pain. But it doesn't stop me every day so I'm fortunate. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves being single. We can do so much when, how and where we choose.
Thanks for your suggestions. Will take on board. I have stomach problems too. It prevents us from taking so many meds.
Take care-hugs
Love from
Kathleen xx

Hi Kathleen ,
I am so happy for you that all is stable, I was thinking about you last night and all day today and praying . I hope that the new painkillers will help you with your pain.
I forgot to mention that I also have upper back vertebrae fractures due to osteoporosis which it doesn't help my pains either , but I can only take panadol-osteo because I have issues with the lining in my stomach .
take care

- KathleenTMemberHi Kim Thanks for your lovely words. It is great to have so many friends on here with whom we can share our various experiences, side effects and daily happenings. Good news from scans-the mets in my back is stable-hasn't grown and hasn't spread, so that's great. They can't really explain the pain, other than its there, & probably weakening bones & muscles around it. At least they've changed my painkillers, which are working well. Hugs to you Kathleen xxSign in to react to this post
