Letrazole side effects
Does any of this sound familiar?
I have aching legs, they feel tired and weak.
The muscles feel tight when I wake up in the morning. I haven't done any extreme exercise, although it feels like I have.
Could this be a side effect of Letrazole? I've been on it since December.
I hadn't noticed this until last few weeks. I'm seeing my Oncologist in July and will ask him too.
I'm 62 and I'm starting to wonder if it is age, as a problem, but I have my doubts.
I don't feel unwell otherwise.

- FLCloverMemberThanks @arpie! 😊. Yes, I’ll def have them reassessed. I’ve been meaning to call my onc for a referral but keep forgetting. I also wear the wrist braces on both hands at night, and they do help. It’s def not bad like it was on the Letrozole. I’d much rather have more shots if it comes and goes, than the surgery with the long recovery period 👌🏻. My feet get sore now on Arimidex, and it takes a minute to be able to walk in the morning and after sitting for a while, but thankfully still strong enough to drive 🙏🏻.Thanks for the link on the CBD oil, it’s really useful ☺️.
- Mummy0297MemberHi FLClover, I only saw the registrar on my last checkup and she didn’t seem concerned - it comes and goes. I see my oncologist again in August after my 1 year mammo so I’ll see how it goes until then . I wasn’t sure about all my side effects as I started radiotherapy the same time as the letrozole.
- arpieMemberDefinitely get your hands reassessed, @FLClover - my hands were killing me in 2018 & I went onto prednisolone for short periods and then it 'got better'! (Prior to that in 2010 my left hand was bad enough to warrant the 'arthritis op' which would have stuffed me around for 6-12 months rehab ... but hubby was diagnosed with his first lot of cancer back then, so was pleased I hadn't gone ahead with it!) But ... I wore a thumb brace & it came good too. I have found personally, that it is cyclical! It comes, it goes! So far, it is staying away from the hands, but my feet are giving me grief just now. I could hardly depress the clutch on the car yesterday! grrr
Here's a link to a Medicinal Cannabis Oil post that I put up in 2018 ...... it was hoped that Medicinal Cannabis Oil would have been made more available to those who need it - but by the time you jump thru all the hoops to get it, it still costs a ridiculous amount of money - if only they would legalise 2 plants per person (as in Canberra) you could actually make your own oil! It WILL happen one day!

It was starting to affect my left hand too, so I switched AIs and had a shot in each wrist. I’m waiting for surgery in July, but wondering if I still need it. What has your doc said about it?
- Mummy0297MemberI have been on letrozole now for 4months . I find I feel
like an old woman when I get up ( I’m 57). I’m definitely experiencing carpal tunnel in my right hand . I still have neuropathy on my feet from chemo ( hands have improved)- so it’s hard to know the full side effects of the medication- time will tell. - FLCloverMember@Halla @Mazbeth will PM you both
- MazbethMember@Halla I would love to know more about the oil too. Is this the over the counter one? @Sister and @arpie are you able to help us out please? Thanks so much x
- HallaMemberIs magic oil medicinal mj?
- arpieMemberI really struggled with Letrozole - then changed to Exemestane for 6 months before settling on Anastrozole/Arimidex nearly 3 years now. It appears to be the lesser of the 3 evils - tho I have found that with most of my side effects - they don't happen all at once - they seem to swap around & some even 'go away' on their own!! My hands/thumbs & feet were often the most sore at any given time .... but I've been lucky that it has lessened in the last 12 months. Maybe I am getting used to it, too?
Like @Sister - I've also been using the magic oil (since going onto Arimidex) - and I swear that has helped me. I don't take it as regularly as I used to now, tho I find it does help me sleep if I take it before going to bed.
Hang in there @Abbydog .... I hope it lessens for you too xx. Failing that, ask for a different AI! I did, and found one that suits me better - SisterMemberExercise definitely helps, the magic oil got me through the worst. I don't know how true it is but I did read somewhere that it seems women who are hitting menopause around the time of starting AIs may get more severe side effects. That certainly would resonate for me.
