Exemestane, anyone had this?

Hi everyone,

I am going to be going on the hormone blocker Exemestane, I was hoping others may have had this and could tell me what to expect.

I could've had Letrozole but was put off that one by someone, not sure if I should have it or which one?

My specialist didn't seem bothered which one I had.

Any feed back appreciated,

all the best from Cindi x
  • Hi, letting you all know the Hormone blocker Exemestane sides have settled down.
Just lots of sweats and some body aches.

Better than it was though :)

  • Hi All,

As I mentioned before, I'm on exemestane hormone blocker and sides are really showing themselves now, I'm getting quite tired a lot and the body aches ( getting worse) aren't good now, the CBD oil isn't helping as much anymore, I can handle the hot flushes, but my memory is really struggling, it's the worst side, and also my hair is falling out a lot.

I see my specialist next month so I guess I'll tell him and try another type?
Does anyone have any input on this?
I can put up with lots of sides but the brain fog is horrible, and I'm retreating from conversations with people because I forget so much. HELP!!
  • How often are you taking the oil @Cindi?   You could increase the dose a bit too .... as everyone is different in their needs.   Possibly try a stronger one next time?

'Brain fog', sadly, is par for the course for all different reasons - the stress & pressure of the whole diagnosis, tests, scans, surgery, chemo, Rads & Tabs ..... it DOES get better tho! xx

    take care
  • If your memory is so bad to the point that your safety is at risk then I suggest you address this concern with your oncologist.  I don't accept that it should go with the territory of being on hormone therapy treatment.

I also put up with other side effects, including brain fog while going through chemo treatment  but the memory loss on an AI for me was out of this world!    I sympathise with you and please get this addressed by your oncologist.  They may have good suggestions for your individual needs.  I also was diagnosed with hypothydoism, which also may have exacerbated my symptoms being on two different hormone therapies for two different reasons.  Lots to consider.

    Wishing you all the best.
  • Hi @arpie, thanks for your input, the oil used to work better, I'm on around .4 of one ml, and the same with the one I take in the night. I'm also now finding getting to sleep harder, I was also taking 2mg of Melatonin, but am wondering if I've been having it too long, I heard it can do the opposite if taken too long ( I've been on it about 3 mths)
Maybe I should contact the medicinal cannabis oil doc again?

Hi @Keeping_positive1, thanks for your advise, I will be talking to my specialist about the brain fog, infact on Monday I may contact my breast nurse, she may have some suggestions. Can you tell me which hormone blocker you were on? do you mean it affected your memory?
    Thanks x
  • I hadn't tried exemestane.  I had tried Arimidex and Letrozole, then back to Arimidex.

Do speak up and see what options or suggestions are available for you.
