Zometa
Sorry, at 62, I'm not really au-fait with blogs etc. but couldn't see any other way of asking my question. I have been taking Arimidex & Bondronat without obvious side-effects (slightly greater tendency to have hot-flushes but not severe) but was finding the "rules" for taking Bondronat annoying (waiting the half hour meant I started doing other things and would almost forget the Arimidex). I decided to try the infusion Zometa, thinking once a month would be much easier than a daily tablet. 2 days after the first infusion I had such severe back pain which didn't let up that I called the Cancer Centre and asked for advice. They said that what I was describing was not a symptom of Zometa. It went on and then I thought about something I had done on the day of the infusion which might account for back pain and went to see a chiropractor. Very gradually the pain lessened and by the time I had my 2nd infusion, it was pretty well gone (still felt slightly when getting into & out of bed). 24 hours after the infusion I felt slightly nauseous, unable to eat (very unusual for me!) and a bit achy all over. I thought these were the flu-like symptoms mentioned as possible side-effects and went to bed expecting to feel better the next day. Instead my upper back (esp. left side) was again really painful (not quite as severe as the previous month) and has now been so for a further 36 hours with no obvious sign of improvement. Otherwise I feel well again. Now I'm wondering if it is in fact a side effect of the Zometa infusion, in spite of being told it wasn't by the experts, and am asking if anyone out there has any experience with Zometa infusions or aching back problems (I have had lower back problems before in normal life but not upper back around the shoulder blade). I hope someone can shed some light on this matter before I need to decide whether to go back to the tablets or stay with the infusion. Thanks for "listening", Nellie
