What's the point.......?
Why do we have medical oncologists? Are they just dispensers of drugs? I've had 3 appointment with 3 different med oncs. They haven't looked at my records, they didn't know what went before, I doubt that they ever talked to each other. The last one started with "so you have had the surgery?". A casual glance at my records would have told him that.
I had several questions of my own about possible side effects and how to cope. Med onc, aka dispenser of drugs, had a one word answer: panadol.
This phenomenon isn't restricted to this specialist. I felt the radio therapist doctors were the same. Again I saw 3 different ones and they were relying on me to fill in the details of my treatment. The few words they uttered were about how I could expect the skin to break up.
Of course this approach may be to ensure that I understand my treatment, but gee, it surely doesn't instill confidence in them. Especially when I am standing outside the cancer centre a few minutes later, wondering why I just waited/wasted 3 hours of my life for nothing.
