Venlafaxine xr
Since starting on venlafaxine a few days ago I have noticed my mouth is very dry. Is there anyone here who takes this medication. Is this a common side effect? If so, please tell it will pass.

Thank you all for your replies. I have done some research into this drug. After reading others experiences with venlafaxine I have decided it is not for me, Where to go from here, I don't know. My anxiety is increasingly causing me to withdraw from my day to day activities. I miss the person I was precancer,
Hi Lorraine
Yes, the ladies who have answered your post are correct, the dry mouth feeling will pass but please do take note of Nellie's comments re the withdrawal symptoms. It is a shocker to get off so try to wean yourself off it (with your medico's approval) as soon as you feel strong enough to do so. I did it ever so gradually - the headaches, fogginess and brain zaps were no fun !.
Do some research on it. I even spoke with the maker of the drug for the best advice. Your pharmacist may be able to give you some help as well. I was given a 'natural' substance to help me get through the worst of the brain zaps.
Hang in there and make contact if you need someone to talk with.
Summer :-)
Hi
i have been on this for about five years, the dry mouth will definitely pass.
Hang in there :)
Hi Lorraine,
I am trying to wean myself off venlafaxine after using it for about six months. Please do some research on the withdrawal symptoms before you continue taking it (and read some user blogs, not just what the drug company and doctor tell you). It is the worst; and there are many who just never get off it. I am tapering off very slowly but have been going through hell... headache, dizzy, nauseous, shakey, flu symptoms, brain zaps etc...
I don't judge anyone for taking anti-depressants; I think they are very necessary for some especially with a breast cancer diagnosis but maybe ask your doctor if there is an alternative to venlafaxine to save yourself some pain further down the track.
Hi Lorraine. I believe this quite a common side effect with this class of drug. I am on a similar drug, but don't get the dry mouth. I believe there is a range of products under the name Biotene, or similar, that are supposed to quite good at alleviating dry mouth symptoms.
Hope that's helpful, Lyn
