TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY!!!! SURGERY DAY
Well, tomorrow is D day!! 8am at the radiologist for the dye and guide wire placement, then over to the hospital to wait for surgery. They ran today to say I'm to fast from midnight so hoping that i'm on a relatively late morning or early afternoon surgery list (wide local excision and sentinel node removal). AND my period has decided after two months to arrive. (for goodness sakes, cant catch a trick at the moment) Hopefully it wont be too bad tomorrow (the period not the surgery)
So please hit me up with your hints and tips and send a little prayer that i get to go home. They have noted down I am to be sent to the ward afterwards (my bp's been a tad high so I'm not overly hopeful)
And if someone can explain exactly what I'm to do with my lovely pillow from the zonta ladies, that would be awesome.
Hope you've all had a great day!

Hi Donna,
Good luck today :) We will be thinking of you and fingers X for a great out come and you get to come home today (remember though they have better pain meds in hospital xx)
Cheers Sue xxx
Hi Donna,
Had the same surgery, 13/1/16, My surgeon was stunned how big my tumor was, it was 70mm! No, that is not a typo! and No , i didn't feel it, just a thickening on my breast. Unfortunately my nodes came back positive so I had to have them removed and spent the night in hospital...and as a result i had a drain in for two weeks...the hook wire is an interesting experience...and you should get a local for that.and they will tape it down so you don;t look like a radio tower walking around with an antenna!......just remember to breathe...Don't have the period problem, i've had a hysterectomy, but isn't it great that it always turns up ant the most inopportune time! NOT!
Oh I was also injected with a dye during surgery, don;t know if you will be, but you will vomit blue (if you are sick like me! anesthetics and i don;t mix!) pee blue and poo blue!
I am going in again tomorrow too for a re excision as my margins came back unclear...then i can start chemo...
My advice? Take your time in getting home, don;t go until you feel ready, anesthetic affects everyone differently, so listen to your body. Good Luck with your procedure and hope you have an easy recovery. I didn't use my Zonta pillow to walk around with as it irritated the inside of my arm, which was effected by the node removal, I do however use it in the car to stop the seat belt from touching my boobs and I use it at night to stop my arm from touching the side of my boob...You will find a way to use it that suits your needs, my surgery was to the side of my breast so it kinda didn't help that....
Good Luck Donna! Sending you love and light for an easy recovery and beautiful days....

Have a good day and hope to see you on here on the flip side. Best bit, they are getting rid of that nasty beggar, whoohoo! I used the pillow to prop my elbow out from my arm. It became rather a comfort blanky and it was hard to give it up. Are you going to the look good feel great thing on the 15th? Hope to meet you there. <3

Thanks guys. Will pack the pillow :) I've been given the heads up for the crappy dye part. Have an audio book loaded onto my phone so all good there. Had a reasonable nights sleep despite the horrible heat and humidity at the moment. Ready to face the day and get this party started!!!

Hi Donna. You've had the pillow question answered. My advice would be to take a book, tablet device or laptop, something to do while waitng to go to theatre. It can sometimes be a long wait, so something to occupy/ distract you is good. Preferably not a magazine because all you'll see is food & drink to remind you that you're hungry & (more to the point) thirsty.
Will be thinking of you, Lyn

Hi Donna,
I went through the same procedure last Thursday.
Had my radioactive dye last Wednesday, sorry to tell you, mine went in next to nipple, no local , cause that's two needles instead of the dye being just 1,hurts like hell. Then waiting for dye to move through lymph, about 90 mins, then pics taken and ct scan.Thursday morning 2 hook wires put in under ultrasound, local given , the wiresare taped but poke into you every time you move.2 hrs later went to hospital, had an injection to prevent blood clots, then had to wait 2 hrs, then op.
2 1/2 hrs of surgery , 40 mins in recovery then up to ward.
i felt OK, very bruised, no pain but given panadol anyway, I didn't a drain,
Home the next day , stiff and sore , but after 4 or 5 days feeling good.
good luck tomorrow, hope your op and recovery go wellxxx

Donna that little pillow will become your best friend for a while. I used mine in bed so my arm didn't rest on tender breast and after a few days could lie on that side using the pillow. Have seen some women tie it over shoulder & wear it like a handbag when they are out. Came in handy to protect my sore boob from seatbelt too.
Only tip for hospital is don't go home till you are ready. See how you cope with anaesthetic, pain killers & drains before rushing home & soldiering on. This is the time to be kind to yourself. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and praying for you, Trace??
