Strange happenings lol

Ok so i havent even started treatment so this is not a side effect of same but has inky started post mastectomy and axillary dissection. I dont get it and am hoping there is an explanation. I get so hot tha t the sweat us dripping from my face and nevk. The back of my hair underneath is always saturated and yet its 22 degrees inside ???? What on earth is causing this?  I had my mastectomy and axillary dissection 12 days agi. Chest is no drama. Blissfully numb, as is underarm. Yet i hace horrific burning and hypersensitive pain on the underside of upper arm. I end up having to take that side out of clothing gently brushing in bed and make sure nithing is touching as i swear a feather feels like its being rubbed with sand paper omg  and no matter how much sleep i have am still tired and unmotivated. Crap i whinge a lot but i love having this place to learn share and vent.
  • Oh its all so yuk but thanks guys for letting me know im normal !  My back of my hair is aĺways soaked and cant even bare to have clothes brush against my arm eeek
  • Yep menopause. I am a year on from treatment and still feel like I am going to internally combust sometimes I get so hot. I can't really regulate my body heat and have coat on coat off every hour or so. Mines not getting any better either. Just one of the lucky ones where it drags on. The pain under the arm, the meaty bit that hangs down is where my lymphedema starts. Just massage it when its sore so it doesn't keep swelling on you.
  • Sue Kauter your local breast care nurse should have those zonta pillows....
  • Hi @Bevvzy, you may be interested in a 'Zonta' breast care cushion, as Jane has mentioned these can be used after surgery to provide some cushioning between your arm and body and may provide some relief for you while this area is still tender. I will send you a PM with the contact details for the Zonta cushion contact person in your state. I have included a link here to our 'Menopause and breast cancer' booklet - this booklet includes some helpful information and tips which may be helpful for managing hot flushes.

  • Hi Bevvzy, I had the same sensation all along the inside of my left arm after lymph node removal.  It lasted a good month or so then the real sensitivity started to ease off.  It felt like a really bad sunburn without the heat!  I used to sit with a soft little cushion between my arm and body which helped a lot.  9 months on and my arm has full sensation towards the elbow but still partial numbness around the top and armpit area.
Welome to menopause.  Everything you described sounds all too familiar!   Whinge away, we all get how you feel.  Jane xx

  • Yep sorry Bevvzy its absolutely menopause exactly as @Zoffiel says. The burning hypersensitivity of the underarm, I think would be to do with the nerves and like when things have been numb and starting to come back to life. All very normal. X Melinda
  • Sounds like menopause, Bev. Anaesthetics  can play havoc with your system for weeks as well. Moodiness, sweatiness, sleeplessness--most of the 'esses' you can think of

As for the burning sensations, yep. I think pretty much everyone who has their underarm excavated has those to some degree.
