Round 2

I had my 2 nd AC treatment on the 23rd. This one did not go as smoothly as the 1st one. My port would not run properly I ended up having to go for an X-ray only to be told it was fine but the nurses were not happy as it was very slow so they ended up having to find a vein no easy job. The nurses are absolute angels the whole time they were so apologetic as if it was their fault. Anyway 9 hrs after we arrived we finally got the job done and went home. The dr decided to alter my steroid dose to see if it would lesson the crash. Nope it didn't in fact I think it made it worse so will discuss that next time. Xmas morning my hair started to fall out in chunks I thought I was prepared for this but wasn't. I have been feeling very sorry for myself and really just want to hide from the world. However my wonderful husband is trying to get me out and about he made me buy some new hats and is coming with me when I go to try on wigs today. I'm sure I'll get used to this new me but it has been confronting. I didn't think I was a vain person but clearly appearance matters deep down. I am going to make myself get out and do things. Have a good new year all 2014 can only be better than 2013

  • So pleased that your confidence has been given a boost with the purchase of the wigs. I too experienced the soreness of my scalp as the hair was comming out.  the day before my scalp felt like you said as if I had had it tied up tight for a while.  This feeling lasted for a few days after my hair came out.  My daughter  a hairdresser then shaved my head to remove the scraggly remnants of hair .  We both cried through this process but then gave in to laughter around the fun of the different wigs and hats.  It really is one day at a time.

I hope 2014 is good to you lots of love and good wishes.

  • Your scalp is very tender when your hair first falls out.It doesn't last though, maybe only 3 or 4 weeks.I am glad you feel better with your wigs:) I never bought a wig, only hats, turbans and bandanas.I am 59.I don't really like the bandanas, but I have a bamboo turban, from the cancer council, which is my favourite thing ever!:) It is so cool in the hot weather, and fits so well.Whenever I wear it I get lots of compliments, and my husband loves it too !Dont force yourself to get out if you don't feel like it.What's the bet that a couple of weeks after losing your hair, you will start to get used to it.All new things like this require a period of adjustment. One day at a time:). Sending you happy thoughts. xoxoxo Robyn.
  • Hi Mitch

Yes it is unexpectantly awful when you loose your hair.  Although we know it is going to happen it does not make actually loosing the hair any easier.  For me loosing my hair was one of the worst experiences even worse than pain of treatment.  I too am not a vain person but I think the loss of hair is a stark reminder that we are in a fight with cancer. Don't hide away get your wig and some loely hats and scarfs and face the word.  It seems that you have a very supportive husband treasure him.  Enjoy your hat shopping.

And be your own best friend.
