- onemargieMemberHi there i had triple neg bc may 16 my options were have lumpectomy chemo and rads or mastectomy chemo and no rads I chose the latter as the less treatment the better I then took the other boob off as a preventative as my guts told me too. No regrets from me I work as a nurse and heard too many stories about it coming back in the same boob or ladies getting it in the other boob so I’m happy with my decision. But bear in mind I had a 3cm tumor no lymph nodes involved and all,my scans were clear and was told Yes it can recur somewhere else in the body but my chance of this is low now since having chemo and having the double mastectomy. I chose to have done what is right for me and there will be plenty of advice for you on here lovely My best advice is be guided by your team but trust your guts too. Margie x

You may benefit from joining the http://onlinenetwork.bcna.org.au/group/1-choosing-breast-reconstruction
There's a wealth of information and knowledge in privacy.
I had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with tissue expander and changeover surgery to implant.
@primek will fill you in on her journey - desinhaMember@primek Thanks for your post. Yes you are right. I have been diagnosed with very aggressive Invasive Cancer hence despite few folks recommending Lumpectomy followed by Chemotherapy and Radiation, I am still contemplating about Mastectomy to avoid any recurrence as my right breast seems to be having suspicious DCIS activity. Did you go for breast reconstruction as well after Mastectomy or decided against it?
- primekMemberHi me again...I see on another blog you have a rare form of Invasive breast cancer and now found to have dcis also.
I personally chose a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction in tbe 1st instance as I didn't want the risk of recurrence and not being found (with a teally sucky family history). I miss my breasts but feel happy with my decision. It's very personal and the surgeons will only offer lumpectomy etc again if they feel it is safe to follow this path. But if your gut says take the breast. ..I'd go with the gut. Kath - primekMember@"deepti.sinha" Yes you are correct...dcis is breast cancer stage 0. I believe @brightspace meants IDC...as invasive breast cancer.
And yes correctly dcis fortunately means you are unlikely to require chemotherapy but will need surgery and possibly hormone treatment. Hopefully you'll have an appointment soon to discuss the treatment options. I didn't have dcis but went straight to IDC which fortunately I found incidently 5 weeks following a clear mammogram. I chose to go through the public system in South Australia as I believe they are often up with the latest research and usually have well coordinated teams. (The cancer research area was at the RAH where I worked) The same surgeons are the ones who often work privately. Mine does.
I had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction through public which cost me nothing. Cancer treatment and surgery options can cost thousands above private health cover so it's wise to know this up front.
Hope all goes smoothly for you.
