hugs Paula xxxx - desinhaMember@mum2jj Thanks a lot. Yes I am able to login to the group now. I am really overwhelmed by the affection and support provided by other members here in this forum. I somehow feel this is the right place where all of us (especially new members) can find all the required support (emotional, social, technical) and seek guidance from the experienced friends.
- mum2jjMemberHi @"deepti.sinha", Sorry, I am just in from work. I can see lots of the girls are helping you out. If you pop on over to choosing breast reconstruction the lovely @primek has started a post for you. Sometimes when you can’t get into the groups it is because you have inadvertently logged out of BCNA. However I will mention it to @Marianne_BCNA as you are the second person who has had trouble joining. @SoldierCrab is correct, we are all volunteers with other jobs but will always get to you when we can. I can see the lovely @Jane221 has signed you up. In regards to your choices it’s a very personal thing that once you are armed with all your information you need to sit down and weigh it all up, pos vs neg for both. My first diagnosis I went with lumpectomy and chemo/rads. Unfortunately I did have a recurrence. I then went on and had mastectomy and reconstruction. Honestly at the time of my diagnosis I just went with what was recommended. It was all a bit of a rush. However I was in no way prepared for a mastectomy. Also at the time there was no choosing breast reconstruction group where I could chat with others who had been where I was. My advise is take a big breath, read what you can and have a chat with your doctors about your options. Hugs to you.
Paula xxxx - June1952MemberHello @"deepti.sinha"
I am so sorry you have had to join us but what a wonderful group you are joining. Ladies here are quick to come to your rescue with answers to the most intimate of questions, day or night.
My personal answer is that if you can get your head around it go for mastectomy as that does give you the best way of beating the beast and added treatments may not be as severe.
Good luck with your decision, and ASK ASK ASK questions as it is your body and your life.
Hugs S - viking1MemberAs the ladies have said, each case is individual. I had a lumpectomy, chemo and soon I will have radiation for my particular cancer. I am also HER2 pos, grade 3, so am on Herceptin injections. There was never any discussion about me having a mastectomy due to the nature of the 2cm tumour, Er neg and Pr neg. (Total axillary clearance - 3/16 nodes cancerous - so stage 2 cancer.) One thing by surgeon did say was that having the surgery, chemo and radiation was the equivalent of a mastectomy for me. I urge you to keep asking your surgeon questions, and you may need to do this through your breast nurse. The breast nurse is invaluable and on call or will get back to you very promptly. They also can act as a go-between you and the surgeon or help you make further appointments with the surgeon before you take any action at all. Don't stop asking questions until you are happy with the info you're given. xxx
- melclarityMember@"deepti.sinha" Hi there! and welcome, there's been a lot of great sharing already. I just wanted to say as I have done both options. In 2011 I had DCIS and had a lumpectomy, radiation and hormone therapy but 4yrs later I had a recurrence in exactly the same spot. So in 2015 I had another lumpectomy as Im big breasted, chemo and put onto Arimidex as Tamoxifen stopped working. In February 2016 I had a single mastectomy/diep flap reconstruction 1yr after treatment. It was an agonising decision to make as I was completely clear but didnt want to risk another recurrence. I haven't looked back, knowing how I look now I wouldve opted at DCIS for this surgery and saved me anything further. However I think we make the right decisions at the right time and I wasnt ready at the time. It really depends on your diagnosis but some valid points for both. All the best in your decision.
Hugs Melinda xo - desinhaMemberThanks. Will wait. No rush as still plenty of time left for the decision :) I checked the link again iserbrown. No its not opening. I get an error message that I don't have the access !!
