Interesting Discussion with receptionist when booking Mammogram & ultrasound 12 month check up
I am due my '12 month since detection' mammogram & ultrasound checkup - and rang the radiology centre that I prefer to use (rather than the Taree one that didn't pick up my tumours, even with the location pinpointed by the GP!)
4-5 months back, I had a 'scare' in my other boob - and had a bilateral MG & US then. SO, still having the 12 month referral, I rang to book it in. The receptionist said that I may as well not have the mammogram, as it was unlikely to have changed in the 4-5 months since the previous one - just go with the Ultrasound. It made sense to me at the time (specially as I have dense breast tissue & the MGs haven't shown tumours in the past.) However, the specialist US lady I preferred wasn't 'available' for an appointment at that time .... so I rang again last week & am now booked in for both MG & US next Thurs. (I must have got a different receptionist!)
In thinking back to what the receptionist said that the MG wasn't 'necessary' ...... is that her job?
When I thought about it even more - I realised that I had already had a MG just 4 months before my lumps were physically detected last Nov ..... so there WAS a change within that time frame (altho I do concede that the MG most likely didn't pick up the tumours in my breast due to the dense tissue!)
Technically, I still believe that MGs aren't very effective in detecting anomalies in my own breast tissue .... but I am not so sure that the receptionist should be suggesting to clients not to go ahead with it??

What do you reckon?
