Hysterectomy

Hi everyone I am off to the hospital now, to have my hysterectomy this afternoon.

 Feeling a bit nervous.

I was doing really good until people start asking me what I was having removed and I said, my ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus and cervix.

They replied your ovaries, oh well at least you hormone treatment will work. Then I replied, I cant have hormone treatment because of my breast cancer.  They said you poor thing.

So I am wondering is there anyone else out there the same Had a hysterectomy and cant have hormone treatment.  Any advice on what am I to expect.

Thanks Ladies,

  • Coughing and sneezing would definitely not be fun!  Hope you improve soon and it's not too sore xx

  • Thank you everyone for your advice and wishes.

I been back home for a couple days now and recovering.  I am still very sore, except does seem to be getting better as each day goes.  The only thing now is I feel I am getting the flu.  Had a few sneezes and nose is congested.  The sneezing and coughing hurt.  Sucking on lots of cough and menthol drops to help relieve this.

No doubt I be up and running around again very soon.

    Take care everyone.

  • Hi Dot, I have not been on for a while, as I get addicted to these sites and need to spend time in the real world, out and about in community etc. I had severe menopause after chemotherapy. The idea of a small dose of hormone sounds plausible perhaps if symptoms are VERY severe. I have oestrogen vaginal pessaries twice a week, plus livial daily. It acts like a hormone. Plus I have small does of antidepressant which helps with flushes and aches and pains and mood. I am over the worst of menopause symptoms now. I go in second to third gear these days. Take time to adjust to all the changes.

Good luck with it all, and ask for help if you need it. Kathy. ooxx.

  • Hi Dot, just wanted to send you some good wishes that all goes well.

  • Good luck Dot.  Hopefully all will go smoothly for you and you will soon be recovering back at home with your lovely girls!

Hot flushes don't go on forever so grin and bear it and grab a fan!  I've sort of resigned myself to the fact that I have to have them and can't do anything about them but I have found that Evening Primrose, Vit E and ground up Flaxseed seems to have reduced them a bit lately.

    Keep in touch,

  • I have had my ovaries and tubes removed, whammo hot flushes. Which I would have had after chemo anyway, as the the chemo made me menopausal.

My cancer was hormone+ so I cannot have hormone therapy to help with my hot flushes. All I have found so far and it's early days yet. Some foods and hot drinks (coffee) make the flushes worse. Drinking lots of water, staying hydrated and keeping my temperature cool seems to be the way to go. Waking up in the early hours all hot flustered and sweaty is not pleasant to say the least. Though I figur my body is getting hot and trying to cool down.

On the other hand I have a friend way further along her journey. Also hormone+ breast cance. She has had her uterus removed and a mastectomy. She is on a small dose of hormone, prescribed by her oncologist.

So speak to your oncologist if in doubt.

    All the best Dot, Maria333

  • Dot i had a full hyster when i was 43 and still got my breast cancer, i am on toremifene which is similar to tamoxifen apparently, but it dosent make me sick from side effects .

i don't know your full story but dont worry , they would be talking about menopausal symptoms and we have those when having cancer treatment any way so i wouldnt think twice , just get well. fran
