Help! Oestrogen And progesterone negative but her2 positive

Hi,

Just wanting to see what others have done in my situation.
My breast cancer is oestrogen and progesterone negative but her2 positive.
I have recently completed chemo, radiation and have herceptin until july.

My oncologist seems confused on what to do now, he has mentioned hormone therapy, but has said he doesnt think it will do alot for me, he has also mentioned removing my ovaries which i wasnt too keen on because im not 30 yet and havnt had the chance to have kids.
I live a fair distance from a major city so its not easy to get a second opinion.

Would love to hear what treatment options you got, thanks alot!
  • Thanks! So you didnt have any other treatments after the chemo?
  • @Samtasia I was her2+ and hormone-ve. Chemo, surgery and Herceptin.I didn’t have rads. No hormone therapy required. Not sure why your onc would suggest it or ovary removal. Definitely get a second opinion. This is stressful enough without adding treatment you don’t need. I am a lot older than you at 58 but feel free to ask anything you want. Sending big hugs.
  • Thanks guys! My gp is away on holidays at the moment, i can see about talking to my breast care nurse next time i go to the hospital and i see my surgeon the day after.
I will ask about second opinion options. Thanks again!
  • I can't understand why they would consider hormone or ovary removal if estrogen negative. Can you talk to your breast surgeon? They may be able to link you with someone.
  • Welcome to the forum @Samtasia - glad you found us!  Well done on completing your chemo and rads and all the best for the herceptin xx

Gosh, what a dork ... that Onc is certainly adding unwarranted stress to your situation with his suggestions.  Yep, as @kmakm says .... see if you can get another opinion and maybe even consider changing Oncs.  (I did.)

Re living in rural areas .. each state has a Patient Assistance Scheme to help out with fuel and accommodation costs, to try and minimise inconvenience yet allow you access to city Drs.

All the best ... I hope you can see someone soon. Xx
  • Gargh! I don't like the sound of a confused oncologist... Can you ask your GP if there's a telehealth option available to you for seeking a second opinion? Perhaps if you give us a rough idea of your location another member might be able to help more specifically.

And welcome to the forum! K xox
