95% triple negative and 5% Oestrogen receptor positive.

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can help.

I was diagnosed with invasive, aggressive, triple negative breast cancer in May 2023 with some micrometastasis in 3 out of 4 lymph nodes.

Have had surgery, chemo and radiation therapy. Apparently 5% of the cancer was oestrogen positive and my oncologist is leaving the option to take the Tamoxifen up to me.

Unsure what to do? I am thinking no? Can someone who has been in this situation please help?

Thanks so much.

  • So sorry to see you join our select little group here, @ames ... hopefully we'll be able to help you have a smoother journey of it.

Do you have someone to attend your meetings with you?  Both As physical support and maybe able to ask questions on your behalf as well?    Was it your Oncologist who 'gave you the choice' about the Tamoxifen?  You could always ask for a 2nd opinion too - where abouts are you?  If you put your 'general area/town' in your profile, members may know of someone they could point you to .....  I didn't get on well with my first Medical Oncologist - so I swapped & have been much happier with his replacement - a much more easy to relate to, lady.  Your Medical Onc should really give you lots of information on the benefits of taking tamoxifen vs not taking it ...... so you can make an informed choice.  I can't help you on that :(

We do have a Private Group for Triple Negative - you can join the group & you'll be able to put specific questions to them, in total privacy, as they've 'been there, done that' .....

Below is a thread that has lots of other info on the forum ... including 'non medical stuff' like showing off your pets, gardens, art & craft & even 'funny bits' as yes, we still need a laugh now & then xx
There are also 'tick sheets' that you can print off & 'self assess' on how you are going, physically & mentally.
