Help! Oestrogen And progesterone negative but her2 positive
Hi,
Just wanting to see what others have done in my situation.
My breast cancer is oestrogen and progesterone negative but her2 positive.
I have recently completed chemo, radiation and have herceptin until july.
My oncologist seems confused on what to do now, he has mentioned hormone therapy, but has said he doesnt think it will do alot for me, he has also mentioned removing my ovaries which i wasnt too keen on because im not 30 yet and havnt had the chance to have kids.
I live a fair distance from a major city so its not easy to get a second opinion.
Would love to hear what treatment options you got, thanks alot!

- Maybe record his conversation too, so you can go over it again later? It is too easy to miss bits at the time ...
- I was the same - oestrogen and progesterone negative but HER2 positive. Had lumpectomy, chemo, radiation and Herceptin. No history of any cancer in family.
If you have a family history that's probably why they did BRCA test and could also be why he was questioing whether hormone treatment would give you any benefits. But if no family history and negative for BRCA can't see why you would need hormone inhibitors. - Thanks alot! All the best to you aswell😊
- Hi @Samtasia, I am out the other side of Her2 treatment like you. I am having Herceptin till June and then nothing. No one has every suggested hormonal treatments as my cancer isn't receptive. I would ask your oncologist again why they though about that and get them to explain. Perhaps it is to do with your young age. There are other immunotherapy drugs that may be considered in light of that. Perjeta and Nerlynx and Kadcyla? I've been told they are only considered for advanced disease.

- Hi @Samtasia! We are the same situation but it would be wise if you get a second opinion especially if you wanted to have children.
However, did you do gene testing? If so, you can be positive for the BRCA gene and the likelihood of you getting ovarian cancer is high thats why probably he suggested removing the ovaries. But you can always double check with your breast surgeon as well. All the best. - I am actually wondering if he forgot you are estrogen negative. I know my oncologist sees so many people I have to remind...mastectomy and no nodes when he starts talking about treatments.

Take care and keep asking questions - I had chemo first, started Herceptin, then mastectomy then continued with the Herceptin. I was strongly offered radio but it didn’t offer any extra protection in my case so I politely declined (please read, forget it mate, why would I bother?) response. Sometimes we need to stick up for our own well being.
