Half way mark

Well at the half way mark for Chemo. A very bumpy ride with the last one a major reaction to taxotere. Yuck! Slowly getting back to myself now but the old tummy thinks it's the end! Not long to Chrissy and theres so much to do. Having to get everything done in 2 week intervals is very tiring but duable. Hope all are going well with their treatment. Keep safe:)

  • Hi Holly,

I'm oestrogen and progesterone positive. They have me on Arimadex to block the oestrogen. I'm not on  Hormone Replacement Therapy but was on a natural one before this all happened which was working great, but not sure if I can go back on that now.  I'm 55 and going through menopause. My GP has put me on catapresse for the night sweats and that seems to be working. I did take some SAGE capsules from the health shop but seeing we live about 2 1/2 hours away from there I got the prescription to see how that would go. The night sweats are a lot better now.

Yes, I know when you live that far away from a hospital it is scary. My temperature went up to 38 and wasn't sure if I should go to the hospital or not but decided to wait till the morning to see if it was better. It seemed to go up each time on the taxotare.

That's great you have been able to let go and get help with your little boy. Mine are all grown up and married thank goodness, or it would have been harder. I have a great support group with my family as well.

  • Thanks for writing Kay it's great to hear from someone who's been there. I travel around 1 1/2 hours for treatment and that's long enough. It was very scary at first not being close to the hospital as I thought I might need it. Luckily so far I haven't. It's an odd thing to go through this chemo. I am amazed at how out of control of my emotions are in the first week of having it, I'm all over the shop. I suppose it's taken me the 3rd time to fully let go and get help with my little boy. Thank goodness I have a great support group with my family.

Is it alright to ask you whether you are having hormone replacement therapy? You don't need to share anything with me if you don't want too, I completely understand, it's just that I'm trying to find anyone out there who has oestrogen and progesteren positive cancer who hasn't gone through menopause. It'll be a while yet till I have the Hormone replacement therapy but I'd like to get a bit more personal information about it.

    Keep happy & healthy

  • Hi Holly,

That's great you are halfway through. Taxotere, yep it knocked me as well. I thought I had no reaction until it hit me a few days afterwards. I just wished I had taken some panadol or something before when the symptoms started, but wasn't sure what I should take and couldn't get onto my oncology nurse. After that I felt better, but it did knock me. The next round I started taking the panadol I think it was, straight away and I was much better, I was even able to  travel to a wedding, which I wouldnt have been able to do on the first round.

It seemed to be the first round of chemo that effected me the most when they changed it. So that would have been the first one and the fourth one.

I've been finished since the end of April, but it felt like a long time when I was having treatment and we had to travel 2 1/2 hours for it.
