Decision to make Invasive DCIS
Hi - I had my first excision 10th May which resulted in 16mm Invasive DCIS ER+ PR+ HER2-. No clear margins.
Second excision 24th May which resulted in 10mm invasive DCIS and a 6mm Tumor (whats the difference?) No clear margins.
Three weeks later - yesterday I had an MRI as I thought they didn't know the second DCIS was there so lets have a proper look.
Firstly I was told I would have the excision and then to radiotherapy and hormone treatment. After the second excision I was just really told what I had and given a booklet 'Breast Prostheses and Reconstruction' nothing else. I am going tomorrow to see the BS with a copy of my MRI and a decision will have to be made.
My question is: (if anyone has any ideas) I would like to have a bilateral mastectomy with skin sparing DIEP flap reconstruction. (After a lot of reading and googling:) However if they throw at me radiation and/or chemo - should that come before reconstruction or after or not at all. I just haven't got my head around this bit.

- @Harvey1903 -OK DIEP in a few weeks. Early days I know, but Reclaim Your Curves ( Ithink it was them) have a great list for hospital....I'll see if I can track it down online....

make sure you joon the Choosing Breast Reconstruction Group and only post pics there as it’s a private, closed group. This area of the forum is open to the public. Nikki - Well done Julie. What a massive effort. Always feels better when there's a plan.
Thank you for your support. I plod on. Some days are better than others. I'm filling my calendar with social activities to give myself reasons to get up in the morning other than the humdrum requirements of the household. I'm hoping to get more structure as my energy returns.

- @Harvey1903 Hi Julie - wow lots of travel there. Phew! Sounds like you are feeling better now you've heard the ins and outs and have made a decision from the options available to you. I am not clear from your post, what recon you actually went with. Not DIEP due to tummy I see, so Lat Dorsi or straight implant?
- Hi there, well another 8 hour round trip to Melbourne, got back last night. Saw PS and will be having a right breast mastectomy and reconstruction. Left breast will be made smaller at the same time. (Was told I didn't have enough tissue on abdo to make a big boob. LOL I though my tummy had enough for four) Even though it was a long day I feel that I am now finally moving forward. I will not need chemo, as not in lymph nodes and no radiation as there will be no breast tissue left. (Got told no alcohol from now on before surgery :( )
Will be in hospital for 4 days at the end of July early August. Then recovery.
Thank you to @kmakm for your support and information. You are now on a new fresh journey and I'm sure you will push through the down times and see the positives. @nikkid mine is right breast not left, not out of pocket yet but five nights accomodation as well as over 4,500kms plus tolls, plus food. So probably pretty good @melclarity followed your story too indecided about the tattoo but will cross that bridge later. @nicksta the MRI was weird felt like I was in a spaceship with aliens on my way to Mars LOL.
Julie - @JJ70 Was tapping the awesome button before I even saw your note. Thank you! That sums me up perfectly right now. Trying to turn round my feelings of failure in my head by recognising the fight as a success. I'm screenshotting that. Mwah! K xox
