Debilitating joint pain

Good morning, I'm new to this group and I'm wondering if anyone else is suffering from body/joint pain since treatment. I don't know really what has caused it but I didn't have it before I started treatment.
At first the oncologist thought it was from the estrogen  blocker but I have been off it for a month and I still have it.
I have tried several types of pain meds but nothing stops it.
I'm now going to a physio therapist but it isn't  having any effect so far.
Does anyone else have this and if so what are you doing for it? Do you know what is causing it?
  • I now sleep with a cylindrical bolster under my knees of a night to stop my knee pain. Cannot believe the difference it makes and have even worked out a way of sleeping on my side with the knees still raised. Works a treat for me and I don't care if it's psychosomatic - I'll take it anyway  ;)
  • thank you for your input, I'm 61 and didn't have any of this pain before I started treatment. My oncologist thought it may have been the Arimidex I was taking so stopped it for 5 weeks now and still have it. I'm going to start tamoxifen this week and I know this is negative but I'm expecting I'll get the listed side effects with that as well.
  • I've seen a Rheumatologist as was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about 10years ago. The foot/heel pain only came after Chemo and still is the same, no bloods detected any reason for the problem, and I had them recently, plus Fibromyalgia is only what they call it after ruling out any other auto immune diseases LOL. I'm going to try an Osteo and see if they can work it out. I actually did some research and there are a couple of things that chemo cause in relation to feet...

    Plantar Fasciitis http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/plantar-fasciitis/symptoms-causes/dxc-20268536

It mentions that collagen that cushions the foot can be destroyed with chemo. Who knows :/ M

  • There are bloods that can be done and a referral to a rheumatologist might be beneficial to see if an alternative cause other than cancer treatment being the cause.
  • Hi Chris,

I suffer from this, I'm 18 months post chemo and just been switched from Arimidex to Aromasin, it's awful. I take Panadol osteo 6hrly on bad days. I also see an Exercise Physiologist and whilst it helps overall it doesn't help the pain I get, mine is mostly feet/heels, then goes to knees, shoulders, lower back and neck. The Oncologist said its a combination of Chemo and being thrown into menopause plus my meds I'm on. I did stop Arimidex for 6 weeks and noticed a difference, but I'm no different. It's frustrating as I just want a pain free life now. Hugs Melinda xo
  • Hi chris
Could you tell me your age.
There is an age onset disease called ..polymyalgia rhuematica quite common around 70 .you have to have a special blood test to detect it...major joint movement even mimics carpal tunnel syndrome...some people even have it in their 50.s
  • Hi @Chrismar, Welcome to the site. Just so we can get a bit more of a response relative to your pain - is it a localised pain I.e just knees, or a full body?? Xx Cath
