Chemo

Hi all
So im stage 1 triple neg. Starting chemo Wednesday and im so scared of it. The treatment and the massive list of side effects is just scary.  Can any one shed some light on this please 🙏
Cheers
  • Try not to get ahead of yourself, @riss81 - I have buddies on Triple Neg treatment & they are going fine.

Your Onc Nurses will guide you in all things - make sure you take the meds (before & after chemo) to reduce any side effects - and if you feel crook, let them know immediately.

Not everyone gets ALL the bad side effects - tho most get 'some' .... you'll notice a pattern forming after a few doses.

Drink plenty of water, maintain some sort of exercise if you can & try & eat well too xx

    You can do this x

  • Just as @arpie says, the list of possible side effects is just that, possible not even probable and not all at once. Some people do feel very sick but there is medication you will be encouraged to take to counteract nausea and a pattern of good and bad days is likely to appear, so you can plan around those.

And some, like me, while having some side effects, didn’t have any nausea at all, or fatigue. I felt and looked remarkably well, for six months of chemo. Most side effects were temporary but many can be minimised. Let your oncology nurses know at the first sign of side effects, the sooner recognised the sooner dealt with. Best wishes.
  • Thanks all for you comments they have given me some hope on the subject.  You are all so amazing. Thank you again xx
  • @riss81 i was also stage one triple negative.  Although I was 75, and the oncologist didn’t think I could handle more than four cycles, I came through it.  Nausea seems to be the big fear, but I had none at all.  They have meds for that.  Keep daily records of your temperature, weight, fluid consumption, medication, exercise, and anything else of note.  From my own experience, I would say go with the laxatives, and exercise as much as you are able.  You can do this!
