  • It can be hard work @Dottiep and I think the old cliche of 'everyone is different' is true when it comes to recovery--both mental and physical. Anything that mucks with our hormones can affect our emotions too and sometimes it doesn't take much to tip the balance.
Hang in there, if you find yourself struggling for too long it might be worth doing what many of us have done and getting some mental health support. That in itself can be a bit of a lottery, depending on who you see, but you'll either find it helpful to dump some stuff on a person who's paid to receive it or you'll come out feeling like you are completely sane compared to the professional.  MXX
  • Thank you , trying to work my way around the site ! I'm a bit slow 😉

  • @dottiep - agree it is a roller coaster but eventually the ride settles - as @kmakm said above my Oncologist also suggested 6 months to allow the body to adjust.  I have just changed from Letrozole after 6 months as it didn't suit me at all however some go through without any problems; hopefully that is the same for you.

  • @Dottiep It's highly individual. Some people's ease after six months. I confirmed this with my oncologist. Other's get worse. It's a lottery.... Good luck, K xox
  • SO sorry to see you here - welcome to the forum - a great place for support and info - specially on the side effects of the AIs/Hormone Tabs - which are famous for giving us big mood swings etc  Many DO 'get used' to the side effects of their medication - I believe that those who've already gone THRU  menopause may have less side effects than those forced into it thru surgery & chemo etc.

Poor you - you are going thru such an emotional time just now @Dottiep ..... we are here to help you thru this.  And 'letting it out' by crying is actually a very natural release - and totally normal.   Where abouts are you 'roughly' - others may be able to steer you to some services in your area

I hope our lovely dog isn't in any pain - I am guessing he/she is 'older' .... and has been well loved by you and a faithful buddy to you.   One of my uke lady's 16 year old dog has just been diagnosed with a big tumour & she is totally bereft, as altho her dog is not in pain - she is limping & obviously not well.   It brought me to tears as well.

Do you have family and/or friends nearby that you can confide in, give you some support?  Or chat to the helpline here BCNA Helpline 1800 500 258 - as you may be helped by chatting with an independent person.  Can you access a psychologist thru your GP or Breast Care Nurse?

Hang in there, buddy xxxx Big hugs coming your way!

(I've been a bawling mess this week too, having been called back for a biopsy 12 months after detection, surgery & rads - and still awaiting an appointment 5 days later .... so can really feel for you.) xxx

And some good info on how the Forum works .....

@Giovanna_BCNA - perhaps Dottiep's post be given it's own thread for others to reply to?

  • Diagnosed in July, surgery, radiotherapy which took its toll on my skin !! And have now been on Arimidex for 8 weeks. It has been a roller coaster , but I thought I was managing ok although the hot flushes have been another level and I am on ' struggle street ' until the last week when my dog became very sick. He's no spring chicken, but my loyal companion. Well I've hit the wall ! Can't control my emotions, a weeping mess, and trying to have a normal conversation almost impossible! Trying to remain positive but feel like I've been thrown off the roller coaster from a great height! Need to pull it together.😜
Do some of the side effects of Arimidex ease with time ? Xx
