bald head!

Hi...just wondering if anyone can help me...over the last 10 days or so, since my hair started to pull out easily, my daughter has been clipping my hair shorter and shorter...we are so glad we have done it this way and have been able to get used to the shorter lengths as time has gone on....over the last few days though my hair has been falling out everywhere and was wearing a cap or bandana to catch it all until I got sick of this and we did the final clip with the clippers without a blade yesterday...and I am so happy, I was worried about this day since I first felt my lump in november, but it went really well and we are pretty happy with it, i havent been to the shops without a cover, but I can talk to friends and be outside here at home with no probs at all...

Anyway I am unsure what I should do with my scalp now...because there is still a short amount of hair there, do I shave it or will it fall out in time...and i guess that the colour will change to the same as my face in time??

I'll try and upload a couple of pics...and a big thanks to those who have previously posted pics and blogs about going bald, because it took alot of the fear away...that is a real gift you guys have given me...thankyou...

jo

ps...sorry cant upload on computer...do i need to do it from my mobile...

  • My scalp is very white, my partner has been calling me snowy:) I still cover up when I go out, but at home with friends and family I am surprisingly comfortable, take care,

  • Hi Jo

I am 17 days past my first chemo and 2 days ago I noticed I could pull my hair out quiet easily so I went to my hairdresser who gave me a no. 4 (I have to confess that I cried!) and then gave it a wash for me. She was lovely and didn't charge me a thing. When I rub my hair now it is falling out so I made the right choice. Maybe in a few days I will get my husband to shave it all off. It is taking me awhile to get used to the person in the mirror, I am wearing scarfes and hats but maybe I will get more confident with time. It is a big thing isn't it!

    Take Care

  • I cut mine very short, then two weeks after my first chemo it started to come out so we shaved it off with just the blade. Then I got the very sensitive scalp and my hair started coming out quite a lot. So I got in the shower sat on a stool and just gently rubbed it back and forth until the rest of it came it. I figured it was better in the bottom of the shower than in my bed! My scalp actually felt much better once the hair was gone. Good thing for me I have fast growing hair so 6 weeks after my last chemo it started growing back with force, not quite the same colour but hey I'm just happy to have hair again :). Tash x

  • I had my hair cut short before I started chemo but even so it made a bit of a mess when it started falling out.  I got my partner to use the clippers on it initially, but I was still shedding hair all over the place.  Three days later I asked him to shave it off.  The scary part was that he took great pleasure in it and just recently asked if I might need my hair clipper so it is all the same lenghth now it is growing back.

Like Tonya I have kept my scalp covered and if I am outside inthe garden I try and use sunscreen so my scalp has remained pretty fair.  I guess you could always use fake tan to get a bit of colour.

It is nice to know that others have had similar experiences and you are not alone.

    Good luck with your journey

  • I guess the little bit of hair you have will fall out but it's up to you if you want to shave it off. When your hair falls out,you might find that your scalp gets quite sore- that's normal. You might also find that the scalp skin is abit paler cos it's been hidden under hair.My scalp didn't change colour cos I kept it covered and it's probably not a good idea to get too much sun on it - especially on chemo. Hope you are managing chemo ok and getting rest+++. Tonya xx
