Yesterday I had my education and planning session for radiation. They gave me a tube of StrataXRT and said to use it once a day now until I start radiation in two weeks, and then to use it twice a day while having radiation. Has anyone else used it? Did you use just that or other moisturisers as well?

Hi, my first post! I usually just read all the great info without contributing but just wanted to let you know I have just finished 5 weeks of radio. Used xstrata and skin was very good all through treatment, just some redness and now quite sore under the arm. Skin keeps deteriorating after treatment for a week or so. Also I missed a section over my shoulder which is now quite itchy so don’t miss that section if they are zapping lymph nodes.Good Luck

Hi @duxx1234 so sorry to hear your skin has suffered so badly. The strata is best used as a preventative barrier before the reaction starts, if it wasn't so expensive I'd say buy a small tube and slap everything on at your poor skin. It sounds as though you were unfortunately going to get a nasty reaction whatever you did as the mepitel film usually does the trick without the need for extra moisturizers. I think your best bet is to manage your reaction now, do you have solugel? If so keep it in the fridge, apply, let dry then apply moo goo over the top. Are they using dressings on the blisters? Mepilex lite is a great dressing for the high friction areas such as under your breast, armpit and bra strap. Also try and go braless as much as you can.After you finish treatment there are different dressings that are able to be used including silver which work wonders. Hang in there! XxP.s please ensure the radiation nurses are reviewing your skin regularly, they know a lot more about the specific skin care than us radiation therapists

@Flaneuse are you having your nodes treated? If so then yes the strata on your clavicle area and right over your shoulder and top part of your back. If no nodes then ok to stick to breast, add about an extra 3cm further than your tattoos, does that make sense?

Thanks so much @JoeyLiz for your wonderful advice. The Mepitel is doing a great job protecting my breast. Unfortunately the burns are higher up on my chest just above my clavicle and on my neck so they are not protected. I did think I had missed the boat re using the Strata! The nurse gave me a sample of Solosite yesterday and I used that last night. The burn is very tight this morning but doesn’t look as red. I will use the Solosite as well as the moo goo and hope that it clears up. You are right, it is all about managing it now! Not long to go now! Fortunately my breast is ok. @JoeyLiz You are a goldmine of advice ! @duxx1234 Sorry you're suffering so much. After readings some stories and looking at a couple of photos, I'm quite confused about the extent to which I should apply the StrataXRT before my radiation starts on 3 Sept. I've been applying it to the area they marked out around my breast. But it seems I need to do it on my neck and shoulder as well. And the décolletage area? And part of my midriff under the breast? I think I'll ring the nurse this morning and ask. I've had a bad night - another 2 am without sleep and got up and made sleepy tea and read until about 3 am or so. Didn't wake until 09:20. So I need to get going now.

Hi im using Strata XRT together with Mepitel film. I also Moogoo at least once a day. Today was Radiation #10 and ive got another 15 to go. Early days but so far so good

@JoeyLiz @Clouise Thanks so much. @Sister - I searched but didn't hit on the correct case. It's good to have this information from other people. I've just found out how expensive StrataXRT is, so am very grateful to have been given it by the hospital. Given what Clouise has said, I'm going to start putting some on my neck as well as breast.

The strata is great, if you like you can use moo goo in the middle of the day as the strata is quite thick and hard to spread but needs to be a thin layer so ample moo goo in the middle of the day will ensure whole area covered. But not essential.

I was given Strata to use on breast and neck, I was given it at my first treatment. I had 30 treatments and it worked perfectly on my neck and most of my breast in fact you can’t tell my neck was zapped. My skin broke down under my arm and along my lumpectomy scar in week 6 of treatment (when I was getting the boost treatment) so I was told to stop using it but I was happy to get that far without issues. I didn’t use any other moisturiser with it as I was told it wouldn’t soak through the strata.
