- kmakmMemberCrikey! Human decency, manners, sincerity and honesty. Who would have thought it would be so hard?
- FlaneuseMemberIt's extraordinary that so many doctors don't get the fact that what doesn't matter to them means a great deal to cancer patients. Nurses get it - mostly. Except my BC surgery nurse, who said I was "catastrophising everything" when I complained that the surgeon had given me wrong and conflicting information about some scans, withheld information about other scans, not given me all options for surgery, tried to put me on Tamoxifen when the oncologist had already put me on Letrozole, told me I needed thyroid biopsies three weeks after surgery and then the next day denied having said that ... and on and on ... Like, expecting honesty is catastrophising?
- lrb_03MemberI'd feel better about his apology if he rang you and gave it himself. That might indicate he'd learnt something about dealing with real live people!!
- ZoffielMemberGawd. I'd like to say they get better with age, but some don't. Why on earth would he put his two bobs worth in when he clearly has no idea. Apologetic, my arse!
- JoeyLizMemberGlad you got some clarification. Best wishes x
- kmakmMemberTrue, but also phew! I'm glad that's all sorted out now. K xox
- FlaneuseMember@kmakm @JoeyLiz @lrb_03 - Okay, REWIND ! Thank you, JoeyLiz. I spent a few hours thinking about what you said about maybe the registrar made a mistake. In fact, he was seriously very cute, but I did doubt his knowledge when he said that my tumour could have been growing for months or weeks. FFS - a 12 cm lobular tumour! More likely years. I'd known for three months that something was wrong, from physical symptoms, before I went to the clinic.
I decided this morning to not waste a few more weeks until 15 June and my next radiation oncology appointment thinking about it, but to bite the bullet and ring the oncology nurse and ask about what the registrar said. She checked my records and said she has no idea why he said that. There's absolutely nothing in notes that refer to it. She said he - as a very young registrar - was there relieving for a few weeks; he wants to be a cardiologist. Doh. he apologised profusely. She said the only time chemo and radiation would usually be done together for breast cancer is for metastatic cancer. My radiation will definitely be AFTER the end of my chemo. What a waste of mental and emotional energy. xxx - kmakmMemberI'm really curious now!
- FlaneuseMember@JoeyLiz Ah well, I'll find out on 15 June.
- JoeyLizMember@Flaneuse “imflammatory” is an another type of breast cancer
Radiation is given with chemo for certain types such as head and neck and lung cancers as the chemo makes the cells more radiosensitive.
radiation is given 4-6 wks after chemo for breast, could have been a mistake by the registrar
