Anastrozole and vertigo

Hi all, couple of weeks ago I had such a terrible vertigo that I couldn't get out of the bed for one week. Now I am fine. I am taking Anastrozole in the past 5 years. I am wondering could vertigo was the side effect from the Anastrozole but for the past 5 years since I was taking it, I never had any vertigo.
Please let me know if anyone had vertigo from Anastrozole?
  • It seems unlikely that any medication you have been taking for years could suddenly result in the symptoms you describe. Have you seen your doctor? It’s possible that something completely unrelated to your medication, such as an inner ear problem, might have been the cause. It would be worth checking, in case it happens again. Best wishes.
  • I've had Vertigo just the once @Zan .... and it was whilst I was on Anastrozole.

But it can be from a variety of things - even an unusual head movement whilst you are asleep can upset the crystals in your inner ear  .....  i hope it doesn't last for you.

    Take care xx
  • Thank so much @ Afraser and @arpie, for your replies. I agree to both of your comments. My GP told me the same that after taking for years it shouldn't be related to my medication, still waiting to see my oncologist. Actually, I had some sore herpes due to some virus in my mouth, it seems it caused the nerve of ears get infected and had sudden onset of vertigo.
With much love & take care

  • There’s a condition called BPPV , that also causes vertigo ( one symptom that stands out is moving suddenly from side to side when lying in bed sets it off )
a good physio can give you a exercise to do that settles the crystals . I’ll try and find a link and post it for you . I’ve had it on and off for 30 years but know to head to physio when it plays up

  • @noosa_blue150 thanks so much for the details. Yes, I know regarding BPPV but my vertigo cause was different. It was due to cold sore( herpes) virus in my mouth which caused inflammation to a nerve of my ear which is connected to brain. That nerve was giving wrong signals and causing vertigo.
    Take care.
