Am I Weird Or What!?
I'll start at the beginning!
When I was first diagnosed in March, my surgeon sent me to have a blue nuclear dye injected into my nipple. This dye seeks out the hot spots and shows up exactly where the cancer is in the breast and then in theatre, the surgeon uses a geiger counter to locate it. I had a blue nipple for some time, which I was warned about, and this is now fading.
I am now finding that my areola changes colour intermittently. Yep. That's right! Instead of it being the normal darker brown, it changes to a lighter clay colour and is almost invisible against the normal skin tone of my breast. Then the texture of it goes super leathery. This lasts for about a minute and then it all settles back to normal again.
Has anyone else experienced this? I don't think it has anything to do with the radiotherapy as it was doing this before I started treatment.
Just thought I would ask the question before I speak to the breast nurse and she thinks I'm loopy, because I'll bet my bottom dollar the relacitrant areola won't "perform" on cue for her to see what I am on about.
Thanks,
San-Dee

my GP is the one who suggested boob selfies to me as he said click away when normal and then as it changes as he reckons even if camera provides weird looking and distorted colours sometimes it helps them to see how things change both size and shape wwie.
I am in Sydney but still by the time I get to see a Dr when boobie is acting up it ends up dissapearing so they have nothing to go off...

Hi All,
Sorry for the slow reply to your comments. We live in a semi rural area and the internet has not been behaving too well of late.
Thank you so much for your responses. I hadn't thought about taking a selfie to show the nurse ... not the sought of thing one does I suppose ... but will keep my phone handy for next time.
As soon as I get some sort of an answer, I'll let you know.
Hugs

Hi San Dee, I had my lumpectomy in early May, I had the dye into the breast but not near the nipple, where I had it in some places is still blue, I suggest you ask the Nurse and Doctor when you visit them, I don't know about anyone else but from the very start (I found my lump in Feb after a Mammogram) I was advised to ask anything you were worried about. Good Luck

Hi San-Dee I had the dye last November and my boob is still a little blue! My nipple also changes colour and texture to like leather as you describe. I have finished chemo and radiation so don't know which caused it but it definitely didn't happen before either of these. I am moisturising every day to see if that helps. It doesn't really bother me, it's just noticeable.

I will add I only finished chemo last Tuesday and it does do weird things to your skin
I had my lumpectomy in January and still have a blue stain.... I have noticed my areola is some what rubbery looking sometimes.and looks lighter depending on the lighting in the room... At one stage I though it had rubbed off!! Until I shifted a hit and there it was... . No changes to nipple otherwise.... If you are really concerned I would mention it to your dr next visit

I should also mention I am still having Chemo - no radiation yet. Just had my 2nd AC chemo this week

I had radioactive dye injected which made my boob super weirdly yellow. No blue dye from memory.
My nipple has not been changing colours but my boob has or should I say the area lumpectomy was done on changes colours and my surgery was back on 31st March.
Sometimes it is yellowish other times brownish and alarmingly turned inflamed red after my 2nd chemo which was on Tue. Had me freaking out yesterday and today the bright inflamed pink and red has gone brownish.
I will be asking Oncologist about it when i see him in 3 weeks ir if it jeeps on getting inflamed will try to see the nurse earlier.
I think you need to flag any changes to them and try to take photos when things haopen seeing that it may look different by the time.you see them as having a photo will help them.
But definitely flag it when you see them.
