Acupuncture and lymphedema

I recently (unluckily I'm told)  developed lymphedema in my right breast where the tumour was removed from). I've seen a lymphatic drainage physio and I spend some time every day massaging the area to try and move the fluid out and towards better functioning lymph glands in my body. I wondered whether acupuncture might help with this condition. If anyone has any experience of that, I'd love to hear from you - so I can save my money if it has no effect at all :)
  • I feel like I'm stalking you, but yes. Ive tried  acupuncture for persistent fluid in one 'foob" and intermittent issues in my left arm. To be honest, it didn't seem to make much difference. What has helped is yoga and, probably more so, Body Balance classes at the local YMCA. Sun salutations that involve holding raised arms then move to down dog activate those pesky lymph systems. Warrior poses are great. Anything that creates tension then release in the affected parts.
That approach won't suit everyone, but it's worth a go if you are well enough. It's also cheaper :) Mxx
  • I’ve never gotten into yoga because I’m a “fast” person and it always seemed like watching paint dry, but quite a few people have been talking to me about it, and I’m getting older and less flexible so it makes sense. I’m going to check out “Yoga for beginners” on YouTube this weekend and see if I can find something that suits. If you have any recommendations... strictly for beginners. Thanks for all your suggestions and thoughts. I feel very supported.
  • Body Balance, which is a registered program purchased by various gym franchises, is similar to an aerobic class, but low impact and a combination of yoga and pilates. If your ego doesn't get in the way (guilty) you can take the easier options. Google it. Not a bad option for fast people.
Private yoga classes can be problematic, they can be too simplistic, too advanced or just plain bonkers. You'd need local advice.
  • I have lymphoedema and have been doing yoga for about 4 years. I too tend to be a fast person and learning to be constructively slow, at least at times, has been excellent. Good for flexibility but also good for some purposeful calm.
  • I’m definitely going to give it a go. Knowing my personality type, I’ll be doing it 7 days a week within a month 😳
