Newly Diagnosed. So many things to do!

Hey everyone, thought I'd introduce myself. I'm 37 and have had Lumpectomy and Sentinal Node Biopsy. Good news is that it was removed successfully with margins clear and nodes are negative. It is Grade 3 though so still need to go through Chemo, Radio etc. 

Just wanted to see if anyone was in the same position as me as I am single and have not had children. My doctor wants me to see fertility specialist before I start chemo, but I am just unsure if I want to put my body through harvesting eggs just before Chemo. It's been a bit hectic on my brain thats for sure!

    Hi there,
    I was 31 when diagnosed and about to start trying for no. 2 so we did egg harvesting. Daily hormone injections, a few internal ultrasounds to check on egg size and then the harvest, about 3 hours in hospital with minimal pain after, whole process took bout 2 wks. But it was emotional and stressful but I'm glad I did it as we have 3 embryos in the freezer. I had zoledex for varian suppression during my chemo, they couldn't tell me if/hen my periods would return but it only took a month,

    Hi @Genevievek8, I am single no kids and was 42 turning 43 last year when diagnosed. I was also asked did I want kids in the future prior to starting chemo. My decision was easy for me (a big fat resounding NO). I felt I was too old to be just having babies, plus I've never been keen on the idea. As your a bit younger it's something only you can decide. If having children is something you really want them I'd have a chat about options. There's a chance chemo will leave you infertile. It's a lot to consider at the start and can be overwhelming. Lots of support here.

    @Genevievek8 I've had virtually the same diagnosis as you back in February. I was clear margins, node clear, grade 3. But I'm a lot older than you at 58 so can't help you with your questions about egg harvesting. Sorry you've found yourself here, welcome and wishing you all the very best as you start your treatment.
