Covid jab
I am commencing chemotherapy next week for HER2 negative breast cancer. My question is should I get the Covid booster today? There has been so much controversy I am anxious.
HiAndo I am sorry to hear about your new diagnosis, it can be such a busy and uncertain time. Agree with others that it would be a good question to check with your treating doctor.
I had my Covid19 booster vaccination the week before I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer. Three and a half weeks later I started my HER2 positive treatment.
I suppose it’s not surprising given how immune suppressed we become during chemotherapy, but 8 weeks into treatment and despite, masking up and having the booster vaccination I came down with Covid19 about 8 weeks into the treatment. It was a nuisance and it meant I had to be admitted to hospital but I was lucky it didn’t cause my oncologist to pause my treatments because it came in the middle of the 3 week break between treatments.
Wishing you all the very best. I did participate in some exercise programs but apart from that I was a bit of a hermit during chemo so as not to contract colds and viruses.
Sorry to hear you still got Covid. This is scary and not too sure if it is helpful to have or not. I did get the booster in the end needing to trust the medical team. I hope your journey goes smoothly in the future.
