My bc was lumpectomy with 1 lymph node involved with invasive ductal carcinoma Grade 2. E & P + HER2- recently I’ve been told by TWO naturopaths I should not be drinking ANY cows milk or dairy products as the milk is extracted from cows (or goats etc) when they are lactating and then also when they’re pregnant, therefore contain high amounts of hormones. It makes sense the milk would contain hormones, but I’d never thought about it and now I can’t stop thinking about it. Has anyone heard of this or KNOWS anything about it. Many information would be hugely appreciated.

I think a sensible place to start is the Cancer Council dietary guidelines.You can download their info.They recommend low fat milk- nothing about avoiding milk.They recommend avoiding/limiting alcohol,processed meats, charred meat and limiting salt and sugar intake.I think it boils down to moderation in most things we eat,including milk. I just have it tea n coffee.We got cancer because a cell made a mistake or we had a genetic predisposition -not because of eostrogen.That hormone just happens to fuel some cancers.

I became aware of intake of increased estrogen through dairy. I asked a professor at peter mac and she said you would have to have a hell of alot. Every plant and animal has estrogen. While I am on anti estrogen I am not bothering because calcium uptake is more important to me. After menopause your fat cells produce estrogen. Always question your naturopaths opinion and your doctors for that matter. kindly berry

sandramj, sounds like you are being proactive about your health and doing the best you can.A 15kg loss! that’s amazing.Well we are all different and Breast cancer is actually many diseases so I guess what works for one, may not work for another.Now I checked the BCNA booklet called’Healthy eating and Breast cancer’written by dieticians and it states that ‘there appears to be no link between consuming dairy products and the risk of breast cancer”.Ofcourse there’ll always be that niggle in the back of your head and that’s why I only have a small amount instead of the recommended 3 dairy serves per day.I think alcohol is a bigger worry to bc risk and they state that in the booklet.I enjoy 1 cup of coffee a day and a few squares of chocolate a few times a week and I’m blowed if I’m going to give them up! Otherwise I eat healthy(rarely drink alcohol,no processed meats)and follow the 5:2 diet at the moment to shed a few more kilos.Good luck with your research and just jot down the bits that ring true for YOU.xx

Dairy cattle are always pregnant. No baby, no milk. The regulations in Austalia and NZ for dairy cattle are very strict. Adding synthetic hormones to dairy cattle has been banned in Aus for a number of years. Cattle are only allowed to even be treated by antibiotics if they are sick and then the milk from that cow cannot be sold for a certain period of time.Natural oestrogen levels are at there highest in the last couple of months before birth and most farmers generally stop milking them about 60 days prior. The amount of cow oestrogen that gets in to a normal glass of full cream milk is in the nanograms and is almost negligable in low fat milk and there is no proof it has any effect on humans.

@sandramj, my husband is friends with a couple of dairy farmers so I just asked. Australian chicken has not contained hormones for a long time either. xoxoxo

I’m sure that with all the research that has been done with BC, if there was a risk that consuming certain foods was a contributor to feeding our BC, our doctors would have told us not to touch them.

@sandramj I couldn't agree more. So far I have found it impossible to do. No booze, minimal sugar, strength exercise 2-3 times a week, cardio on the other days, stress relief (yoga, tai chi), meditation. All while managing a large family with my partner away for part or most of the week. I should also be working part-time. And maintaining friendships. All while on an AI with considerable side effects. And every failure to do any of this creates guilt. Impossible! BC is a comprehensive mind f**k.

Thanks for that. Although now I’m concerned about eating eggs. Bloody hell. This cancer is a real pain in the a..... not just breast related at all once surgery & treatment is over, it seems Sigh! And can’t drink alcohol or eat desserts without guilt and becomes anal about the food they eat feels they should exercise, meditate, remain stress free and while doing all this relax and live s normal life 🥴😳🤔
