OK I didn't expect this. I was going along really well post radiation but in week 3 post rads, instead of healing up my radiation burn started blistering and getting sore and very uncomfortable. I went off to my GP and yes, my blisters were infected. After lots of clean ups, rebandaging, and test results which showed I had an infection that was out of the ordinary, I am now on a course of antibiotics specifically for this type of infection. Hopefully tomorrow's visit to GP will show that this antibiotic is reducing the infection, weeping etc. and I am on the road to recovery. It feels like it is improving although I am getting quite smelly. I was so careful during chemo and even through most of radiation, I must have been outside doing something, come in washed my hands (but not well enough) and then applied cream to my burns and ........ A lesson well and truly learned I can tell you. Gloves to be used at all times when applying creams etc. Still, I do remind myself I have gotten off lightly throughout so I suppose (and I really hope) that this will be a good story for me to tell and laugh at my own stupidity.
