What's normal?

Hi all

im 38 yo diagnosed with stage III invasive Ductal carcinoma, bilateral. Lymph node positive on the right.

im having Neo adjuvant chemotherapy - and have had 3 cycles of AC so far.

To me, the tumour doesn't feel much different - although I have a fibroadenoma and fibrous breast tissue also so it's hard to tell.

After this round of chemo I've had a lot of stabbing type pains in both breasts and under both arms (despite being lymph node positive on the right only).

Is that normal? Should I be concerned about progression of disease? Or could the pain be from the chemo doing what it's meant to do? Has anyone else experienced this?

Im seeing my oncologist next Tuesday and will discuss with him. I've decided to go ahead with bilateral mastectomy- perhaps he will recommend having that sooner rather than later and competing chemo after.

Thanks for reading X

  • Hi Ali,  I hope your oncologist was able to answer your questions about the jabbing pain. I had neoadjuvant chemolastyear for node positive left breast cancer.  I do remember getting jabby type pains in my breast at times, probably from about the 3rd cycle. When I discussed it with my oncologist, it was suggested that it was a good sign, that the chemo was doing it's thing. My tumour was never palpable,  so I never felt any change, but I have another friend diagnosed shortly after me, who never felt any change to her lump, in fact thought it may have been bigger. At surgery, she'd had a complete response.
    Hope you're going ok.
    Take care, Lyn  :)
