- ShakalkerMemberHello everyone, so sorry not to be back after my last post, I have been away and not near the internet.
My skin closed over and stopped leaking about 3 weeks after radiation had finished.
I used Solosite gel, with gauze over the this and then thick padded dressings, to cover the area. While I was away, I could not get the dressings I wanted so I bought disposable nappies and trimmed them up so they were flat by removing the elastic on the leg area, these gave me the wadding I felt comfortable with and the protection I needed, I wore a singlet over that and then a stretchy netting I’ve to hold it all in place.
It is still very tender and feels bruised underneath the skin in a lot of places.
During the time when I was having the nurses dress it, I was told by both the nurses and the radiology oncologist that this was normal, yet most I had spoken to said they had not had it to this extent.
I found it weird that the same doctor said to me after I had healed that she was trying to figure why I had such a reaction and asked if I was any medications she didn’t know about, I told her just blood pressure, she asked if I was diabetic and on meds for that, I told her “no”, then she asked if I was a smoker, again I said “no”. I found it strange that after the fact she was interest d but when I was going through hell, she made out like this was normal.
Thanks for all of your comments and concerns.
I have healed now. - Blossom1961MemberStill no news anyone?
- Brenda5MemberHoping the hospital is just trialing a new burn cream and they are keeping you in to make sure your kidney function is A OK. They did that once to me when I was scalded as a kid and I was in for a couple of weeks.
- EAAMemberDear Shakalker. Im late to this post as usual I! But OMG! Hope some relief has come to you.
Is it not a radiation burn? I dont know the treatment for these specific burns.Burns are not usually treated with creams. Hope you’ve been able to get the right help. Thanks for posting the graphic.
The sloughing of dead tissue needs to be cleaned and dressed to allow for new tissue to grow.
Its a basic routine for burns.. Hope you’ve found the best care.. Someone experienced in Burns. - Anne65Member@Shakalker We are all thinking of you & praying you have got some wonderful care & you are starting to heal on the inside & out. I had such a wonderful, easy time through my rad with not even a speck of redness, burning or peeling due to the Mepitel film & it really hurts to read that others have not got the same care & advice as I did. We are all praying for you & sending you lots of love & strength. xx
- BlondyMember@Makday, can only hope with the time that has gone by that there is an improvement in her condition. Like you I wish we knew how she's getting on. Sending lots of positive healing vibes to her.
- MakdayMember@Shakalker @Giovanna_BCNA, I have been following this and wondering how everything is going, @Shakalker you are constantly in my thoughts and hoping all is going to be OK.
- Giovanna_BCNAMemberHello @Blossom1961 not yet, will try to call on Monday when back in the office regards Giovanna
- Blossom1961Member@Giovanna_BCNA Any news?
- BlondyMember@Blossom1961, we are all concerned but what can we do but wait. We all are hoping that since her first post that she is getting some 1st class treatment. The trouble with rad is, like sunburn, it continues burning from the inside out and continues after we've finished. Likewise if you get a normal burn to the skin it's best to keep it as cold as, because the pain of the burn is the continuation of the burn from the outside, in. It's frustrating not knowing how Shakalker is, but we know at times during treatment nothing much matters but getting through it. I'm waiting to hear from her that she has made an improvement then I can breath a sigh of relief.
