Temperature

Had my third dose of chemo and thought I was going ok. (TAC) however end up, after 12 days, with high temperature and tight chest and cough and runny nose. All blood tests done and cultures and chest x-Ray, which all came up clear. So guessing this is a virus which I can't do anything about. So now had these symptoms for a week. Been told by the hospital that I just need to keep the fever down by taking Panadol every 4 hours. My worry is, that I am due my 4th round of Chemo next week and am worried in case it is postponed.

Has anyone else had an on going fever and did you continue on with treatment?

Also have had terrible night sweats, which I know aren't from the fever as it has been a reasonable 36.6 or below from taking the panadol. I assume this is because the chemo has thrown me headlong into Menopause. I wake up drenched. Not comfortable at all. This is followed by feeling cold. So back on the blankets go. Anyone got any tips. Feeling pretty miserable about it all as this is supposed to be my 'Good Week!'

  • Thanks Tracey62,

fortunately for me my temperature went down and bloods were good so was able to continue with chemo. Bit of a palava though as chemo always seems to irritate my veins and they end up moving the needle to another vein, which they put inside my forearm. Not pleasant at all, in fact quite tender. Still, onwards and upwards, two more chemo's to go, then surgery. Hopefully before Christmas so I can get this year over with! May still have to have rads but cross that bridge when I come to it.

Hope all is going well you now. Sounds like you went through the mill you poor thing. Big hugs. Xx

  • Hi LindyLoo, it's a week after your post so I'm guessing you've had your next chemo? Same thing happened after my 2nd chemo with FEC. Went ahead with next dose but it knocked me for 6, ended up hospitalised for a week for fluids/antibiotics/daily filgrastim. I decided to delay next round by a week, seem to cope much better physically when I'm stronger before next dose. Have found Docs very happy to adjust chemo program, next round will include weekly IV fluids. Talk to your team and see what they can do, they really are there to help you. Good luck with your treatment

  • Thanks Tracy. I'll give that a go. Just hoping this temperature will go away and soon! Xx

Hi Lindyloo, that's awful that you have had the sweats. Panadol always makes me sweat, and I think that's why it brings your temp down. I find that my flushes are less if I drink decaf tea and coffee, avoid chocolate and alcohol. I still get flushes, but they're not as severe. Hoping that this helps, a Trace ??????
