Tamoxifen

I have been on Tamoxifin for 12 months since finishing my chemo and radiation. I am 47 and have not had a period since my second chemo session but today I started a normal period, is this common? Has anyone else had this experience? I am travelling overseas and do not have contact with my oncologist.

  • How did you get on at the GP's? I've been spotting after having no period  for 3 years so joy of joy I'm having blood tests and a pelvic ultrasound.Luckily,my annual oncology visit is next week so can take all results to the poor man. There is always something to worry about just when you think it's all behind you.Good luck.

  • And here was I thinking that the upside of treatment was no more periods! Thank you for the advice on uterine cancer I will be sure to seek some medical advice if this continues beyond 5 -6 days. Cheers and wishing you good health for 2013. Regards Erin

  • It's quite possible that you are having a period again.I started Tamoxifen at 47 and continued to get a period but it wasn't monthly. When you enter perimenopause your periods might be erratic and/or heavy. It can start up after a year but you should probably get your GP to check you out when you can. Tamoxifen does carry an ever so slight risk of uterine cancer and if your bleeding didn't stop after 5 or 6 days(like a normal period)then you should see a doctor.I hope it's spoiling your travels.
