Started Radiation 'boost' today
Hello everyone!
Today I'm on my final wk of Radiation. The boost as we call it. And I must say I'm so happy not to have to hold my damn breath for this 1!!! Most of you know I'm a radiation therapist so I know the ins and out of this treatment but I admit I found the holding my breathe very difficult and anxious, and I apologise to anyone else who has to do it! I have some feedback for my department so hopefully we can tweak it and make it less stressful.
In other news my skin is starting to break down in the expected places, (collarbone, armpit a d under my breast).
I hope everyone is travelling ok with their treatment xx

- JoeyLizMember@Joannie we steered away from the snorkel as heard bad feedback but looking into other options
- JoeyLizMember@bakerr good luck with your appointment you will get more info then. Holding your breathe is only if you are left sided and even then not fir every case. I'm always happy to answer any radiation questions x
- tigerbethMember@JoeyLiz on the home stretch ! Yay !!
- tigerbethMember@bakerr Congrats on getting through all that !
You only need to hold your breathe in certain cases ,left side BC,and its not offered to all .
Radiation for me was ok lay there for a 2 mins approx, nothing to feel or see straight away.
Turned pale pink & now after booster have a tennis ball size red mark ,but this is now receding 2 weeks after I finished.
Worst part for me was the tedious trip there & back every day for 4 weeks and lying still without cramping !!
Good luck xx - bakerrMemberHello, Well I have just learn't a lot reading your posts. I see the Radiologist on the 3rd August, and I really don't know anything, just that you get zapped. I have finished the Chemo, surgery and will finish Hercepton and Perjeta in December.
This is the first time I have heard about holding your breath. Well I suppose all will be revealed soon, they do say ignorance is bliss lol. xx - AnonymousNot applicableThe user and all related content has been deleted.
- FinchMemberHi @Joeyliz I finished my last radiation on Monday. Thank goodness I only needed 20 with the last five being the boosts. I found the dibh no problem at all. The staff were amazing and wonderful . I seemed to be one of the extreme cases though with burning. The good thing is I've noticed where I've not been boosted I've healed up quite a bit already , as in the skin is not raw any more. At the boost site it's quite severe with open skin. I'm putting on lots of Solugel and a burns dressing over the top. I already feel as if the heat and rawness has lifted.
breast is still an awful red colour and the skin feels and looks like an elephants .
I rang the bell, which I found very moving. I was soooo teary.
Pall the best to you for your final boosts. Take care. Xxx - JoeyLizMember@lrb_03 thanks for your thoughts. Coping ok with work I had a few days off early on due to chest infection but fine since. I just find it I stop at about 2pm the tiredness hits but if keep busy (which we are at work) I'm fine until I stop at home. It has been nice chatting to my patients, I finish on the same day as another lady and she is so excited! How are you travelling? X
- lrb_03MemberHey, @JoeyLiz, often think of you. These last 5 treatments go quickly on different levels. The treatment itself is so much quicker, but just those last few seemed to me to fly past.
How have you been coping with work? Hope you're managing ok.
