Radiotherapy week 1

Monday - arrive at 11.20am for a 11.30am appointment. Oh that's for an introductory spiel your actual appt is 12noon and we're running late. Ring work tell them I'm running late. Waiting, thinking oh this is just like chemo. 12.30 comes along, go in, change wait some more. Finally go in, drawn on, pulled around like a sack of potatoes. Get out at 1.10pm race home get changed race off to work. Tuesday - on time! Yay this is more like it. See the social worker (first time since I've started treatment) have a nice chat after rads. Then race off to Epworth Freemasons for Herceptin (have I mentioned I hate my port?), then back to Werribee for school run. Pickup lap top as well. Exhausted. Wednesday - Physio for middle child first then off to Sunshine on time again:) starting to get into the routine. Dentist for middle child, school run, swimming, pick up other child, basketball, home, basketball, home. Thursday - Wake up feeling teary obviously over did it yesterday, teary driving to Sunshine, on time (tell staff how much I appreciate them being on time). Then see nurse. Go home quick rest, teary driving into work. Did not enjoy work. Friday - had 11 hours sleep, feeling better, on time again. Most impressed with the staff, moisturising every day, no side effects to date, other than tiredness. Just for something different go to work. Cheryle :)

  • Hi everyone, thanks for your comments. Well this little black duck is trying to take it easier this week, but admittedly feeling tired tonight. The hair: well it's growing I've started wearing a baseball cap to rads and there's a bit of fuzz peeking out. Colour-white, grey, dark grey, blondy brown. Sticky up bits, curls starting around the ears, very sparse at the crown. Bit of everything really. But the best bit? All of a sudden I have tiny eyelashes and I can see eyebrows. I know this sounds silly considering how excited I'm getting about having hair again, but I can't wait to go to the hairdresser and say I need a haircut! Cheryle:)
  • How's the new hair coming along?? Got a full cover yet? Length, colour, chemo curls??

  • No wonder you have been teary, pushing yourself way too much.I took time off work when I had radiation and would rest in the afternoons after my zap.I'm glad I did cos I got very tired at the halfway point. Please put yourself first and take it easy- ask for help, delegate, lie around abit, I think I can hear you laughing - this concept is quite foreign to mothers but we need to slow down during bc treatments. Now I don't want to hear anymore superwoman stories while you are having radiation!! Sending hugs, Tonya xx

  • Hey Cheryl

I got tired just reading your every day life you poor luv.  I don't know how you lovely ladies cope with working, kids, driving to your rads every day and all the other general things you have to fit in to your day.

Fatigue is a major issue that hangs on following chemo and then your rads will add to it.  Please please try to nurture yourself as it is so important to be as well as you can to get through this and come out the other side as well and as fit and healthy as you can.  I know we like to think we are superwomen but at this stage of your treatment you will be tired, run down and your immune system will continue to be very low.

I hope you are managing to keep up your fluids and cream yourself well and eating as healthy as you can.

I very much sympathise with you and other women that have to try and do it all during their treatment.  Please try and nurture yourself luvy and keep them burns away.

Good luck, thinking of you and wishing you well. lots of love,Mich xoxoxoxo
