Radiotherapy over Christmas break

Hi there,

I am due to start Radiotherapy soon-I am almost 2 weeks post-op and am still awaiting a call from the Radiation Oncologist for a planning date for Radiotherapy. I have looked at other threads of conversation on here and it seems there are varying degrees and reasons for the timing of the start of Radiotherapy. I have been told that I will require approximately 5 weeks Radiotherapy, but I am concerned as there are only 5 weeks until Christmas and my Breast Care Nurse said that they will close down over the Christmas/New year period. I am wondering if anyone else has had Radiation treatment over this time of year and how was it planned to fit around the Christmas break?

Thanks in advance,
Michelle  :)

They’ll give you a schedule and work around the holidays. Try not to overthink it. All the best.
  • Hi Michelle im going in for a revision of my lumpectomy because they didnt get sufficient deep margin...this os happening on Thursday 22nd nov....im waiting on radio onco appt to see how much i need...ive been told i need to wait for my breast to heal again so I too dont have any idea what happens over xmas.
  • I think they only close for the public holidays. Ask your rad onc to explain the science, but my understanding is they try to deliver a prescribed dose in as short as period as is practical and which does not endanger the patient. I was having treatment in February and March and had to reschedule around long weekends and Easter. I also lost a day because of equipment failure. They packed p few double fryings into the last two weeks to make up.
