Radiation Newbie

I have just started radiation & have had 2 of 35 zaps. I went red after 1St treatment which didn't surprise me too much as I am fair skinned & its been some time since that part of my anatomy has been exposed to direct sunlight. I'm currently applying sorbolene a few times a day, but does anyone know of any organic moisturisers that help during radiation?

  • I specifically got told to stop my vit e and c tablets because it interferes with what radiation does. I also got told not to use sorbolene that had glycerine or vit e added. They suggested aqueous cream. I have been using an organic rosehip oil on my scar which has healed well. I'm mixing some in with the aqueous cream. The rosehip was suggested to me by a naturopath at a chemist when I had a hysterectomy. He said avoid bio oil as it has petrochemicals. Also some pawpaw may not be that good if it has additives.
  • We have a wonderful homeopathic chemist in Hobart who makes a special radiotherapy cream. Their shop isquite near to the clinic and they had many requests so they developed the cream. It's wonderful and I had only minimal redness with a bit of peeling around the nipple.

I am sure if you email them they might send you some ? I used 2 jars for my 30 zaps. (Goulds Pharmacy, Hobart 7000) I hope it's ok to post this.

    Good luck

  • I would put pure aloe vera gel on my boob straight after the zap.I would then soak in a warm salt bath that night. After drying,I'd rub in something like vit e cream.I got red but my skin never broke down.Good luck.

  • I used A'kin  replenshing body moist.  Australian natural/organic product which is Paraben & sulfate free, but i was very fortunate and did not have any skin reddening until end of week 3

I also sampled ynatural.com.au (australian too),

'soothe cool calm gel', which cools & is all natural and was developed for those undergoing radiotherapy.  I would recommend this if your skin is affected already.

Unfortunately i found at the hospital they recommend and give for free sorbolene based products, ( which i would not use because it contains petrochemical derived products),  which is confusing for people, when nursing staff are stating 'this is what we use/recommend'.

You can read here about the ingredients of sorbolene

Unfortunately when you start checking up on products that we use every day as consumers, it is a minefield of complicated chemical information, and up to individuals to determine what is best for themselves.

  • I used Moo Goo cream and it was excellent and I use their roll on deodorant as well found that only one to keep me smelly ok has lemon myrtle in it .

  • Hi,

I used goats milk cream [straight after treatment] and aloe vera gel during the day as well as washing with goats milk soap. I did get a bit red towards the end but not as 'burnt' as others. Everyone is different so here's wishing you good luck :) Sending healing thoughts your way .. ..

  • Hi

I used heaps of aloe vera gel and calendula cream, I would put in on straight after radiation and then again as soon as I got home. I did still get very red but not until about 25 zaps of radiation. I found it was very soothing.

    Good Luck
