Radiation burns

Hi ladies, this is nearly two weeks post radiation treatment. My skin is very tight especially under my arm and I can't get my arm up very high as it feels like the skin will rip open. I am very sore (to be expected)but no weeping
wounds. Nurses told me put sudacrem on skin. I'm using moogoo and applying the sudacrem to the broken areas. What did you find helped you.
Thanks

- LMK74MemberHi @PatsyN, that looks good considering you only have 2 to go. Your almost there, well done. I have a lot of tightness since my rads finished last November. Also very tender and at times I cannot lay on that side. My range of motion in my arm on the effected side is restricted somewhat too. I'm hoping it all improves in time but who knows. Wishing you all the best for end of treatment.
- PatsyNMemberPlease note:
There are some chest wall radiotherapy photos that have been posted below.
The radiated area is very red and the photos may be distressing for some online members. BCNA
@LMK74 and @Molly001 This is me 10 minutes ago. I have had 23 sessions with 2 more to go and have used StrataXRT and nothing else. There's no tightness or dryness and although I know it will get worse the cream seems to absorb into your skin and become your skin. I'm stage IIIC and was expecting a lot worse. I would recommend this for anyone having radiation. I cannot recommend it too highly! - arpieMember@LMK74 and @Molly001 ..... OMG - that looks SO painful! :( I am SO sorry you've had to go thru this on top of the surgery. I hope you are able to keep the pain & discomfort under control & that you heal shortly. xxx
- kmakmMember@PamelaP I'm having similar feelings, though post-chemo. I'm left with unpleasant residual issues and it's hard to feel celebratory & joyful. Hang in there sista! The wise women here tell us it gets better. K xox
- DeanneMemberHi @PamelaP,
Sending gentle hugs. Such a hard time. I remember feeling the most down I had during the whole process, at that stage. The only consolation is that you will feel so much better once the healing happens. Sometimes feeling so down makes the up bit even better. A couple of weeks later I went and bought some really pretty mastectomy bras (and could finally wear them comfortably!) and it was soooo good to feel ‘normal’ in that way again.
Wishing you a speedy recovery but totally understand how you feel right now. xoxo - PamelaPMemberHi @Deanne thanks for your post, you explained so well exactly how I am feeling. Nearly 2 weeks past 5 weeks of rads treatment & I was expecting to be celebrating the end of my treatment journey. Instead I find I'm dealing with nurses, burns, dressings & gels. None of which make you feel like celebrating, I'm back to not wearing a bra & feeling a bit sorry for myself. I know it will all heal in time but that doesn't help at the moment.
- kezmuscMemberI had 30 rounds of radiation. I used a combination of Moo Goo, bio oil and Manuka gold honey cream, sometimes all mixed together! Don't use bio oil for about 4 hours before treatment though. My skin held up really well until about number 24. Used some solosite and dressing for the weepy bits with a bit of soft gauze over. Flamazene after (you can't use that one during because of the silver in it apparently but you could double check on that). Pretty much healed up within the week with the Flamazene.
- LMK74Member@PatsyN, you might be pleasantly surprised and not burn at all. Fingers crossed all goes smoothly for you.

Thanks for showing me that. I'm expecting to be burnt down to the bone so your photo is very encouraging for me.
Your scar looks similar to my scar but mine goes up further into the armpit. xx - UnicornkissesMemberFlamazine burn cream (colloidal silver) if the skin is still broken. I did need a script for it though, it was what the nurses dressed me with at the clinic from week 4 to two weeks post treatment. Then I changed to an organic pawpaw cream they had, but it was very oily, and I preferred Moogoo Udder Cream.
three weeks after treatment and the skin had healed well but was still very tender and sunburnt looking, 4 weeks post and I can finally wear the soft form in a Best and Less crop top bra.
It was amazing how quickly the skin healed to look at, but it is still a bit tender underneath even now.
Hang in there, it will get better. You poor thing.
