- MahaicaMemberI am having chemotherapy as a public patient but at a private hospital seeing a great oncologist. I am getting a fair price of 1400 for radiation at the same private hospital.
- lupeltMemberI recently finished radiotherapy at Prince of Wales and the radiotherapists were all lovely, without exception, and really good at their jobs. The equipment in the Nelune centre is all very cutting edge and it's a really nice looking building. My surgery had been at a private hospital - the Mater - and everyone there was fantastic. But private treatment does get expensive and I didn't want to spend $4000 on radiotherapy when the standard of care at PoW, which is around the corner from my home, is so good. The only thing I found difficult was that I only saw my radiation oncologist three times at the treatment reviews, and the rest of the time I saw her registrars, both of whom were male. They were very good at their jobs, and very decent, nice and professional, but to be honest, after 5 weeks of getting my boobs out in front of strangers, I was not loving that aspect of it. So having completed radiation, I'm thinking of switching to a private oncologist for my followups over the next few years.
- Emma17Member@Mahaica RNS offers invisible UV tattoos, so if you don't want tattoos the invisible UV ones are the way to go. Here's a link to their website re the invisible tattoos (para 3): https://www.nslhd.health.nsw.gov.au/Services/Cancer/radiationoncology/TreatmentInformation/Pages/Planning.aspx
- MahaicaMemberGreat suggestions will see my GP and get the process going still have 3 months for chemo left thanks heaps
- Emma17MemberYour BS or GP can refer you to RNS. As it's public, you're likely to meet initially with a Radiation Oncologist (RO) to get your planning and treatment underway but your regular treatment reviews will likely be with a registrar, not the RO, and it may not always be the same registrar. Going private, the RO will see you at treatment reviews but I can't commend that as a great benefit or rationale for paying thousands of dollars for RT at a private facility. It's not worth it.
- MahaicaMemberI had a referral for the SAN sick of paying so I am looking for radiologist at Royal North Shore can recommendation please
- Emma17MemberDismiss any consideration of using the Mater (private) in North Sydney; run, don't walk. Save your money and go to Royal North Shore.
- suburbangirlMemberI had mine at (public hospital) SCGH in Perth and I cannot speak highly enough of the whole team and process. (I was a private patient for surgery but opted public for rth due to out of pocket expenses if go private.)
Best wishes to you!
Suzanne - MiraMemberI had mine at the Mater/PA in Brisbane, they were great!
- jintieMemberI had my radiation therapy at the Peter Mac, and no issues there. Everyone was lovely.
