I recently finished radiotherapy at Prince of Wales and the radiotherapists were all lovely, without exception, and really good at their jobs. The equipment in the Nelune centre is all very cutting edge and it's a really nice looking building. My surgery had been at a private hospital - the Mater - and everyone there was fantastic. But private treatment does get expensive and I didn't want to spend $4000 on radiotherapy when the standard of care at PoW, which is around the corner from my home, is so good. The only thing I found difficult was that I only saw my radiation oncologist three times at the treatment reviews, and the rest of the time I saw her registrars, both of whom were male. They were very good at their jobs, and very decent, nice and professional, but to be honest, after 5 weeks of getting my boobs out in front of strangers, I was not loving that aspect of it. So having completed radiation, I'm thinking of switching to a private oncologist for my followups over the next few years.
