Radiation - Which creams?

Hi all,

I've been a frequent visitor to this helpful & informative site & now have decided to post.

A quick run down : Routine biennial screen through Breast Screen WA (family history), f/up required, core needle biopsy, diagnosed with ICD, Left breast. ER/PR+, Her2 -. My lump not palpable!! Wide local excision, hookwire & SLN Biopsy.  10mm, margins clear. 0/3 Lymph Nodes.  Mirena IUD removed. Bilateral breast reduction (Being a H cup & having a 6 o'clock lump position is not conducive to radiation!!) Mild lymphoedema in left arm. Arm compression sleeve. Radiation starting next week to be f/up with Tamoxifen.

Tossing up between using QV Intensive cream or Moo Goo Udder Cream, not sure which will better to minimise damage to my reduction scars.  Sampled the Mepitel dressing however I developed a rash.  Grateful to be using the DIBH technique which has just started in WA. It's only available to private patients so we'll be out of pocket quite a few $. Looking forward to starting the Cancer Council Exercise classes in a couple of weeks &  to meeting others in the same boat.

Never thought I'd avoid cancer, just didn't expect to get in my 40's!  Hoping to get through radiation without too much drama/fatigue & that my lymphoedema stays under control.

Cheers,

Orchid

  • Hi Orchid,

I used Moo Goo Skin Milk Udder Cream it worked so well for me and my skin held up so well during the Radiation treatment, I would definitely recommend it.  Where are you doing the exercise classes in WA? I am starting the one in Balga, looking forward to it!

  • Hi Orchid,

I used the QV cream as recommended by the radiation nurse. I had very little problems and only mild burning after 33 sessions of radiotherapy. Whichever you decide to use, just keep an eye on things and be prepared to change if it's not working for you. Hope you breeze through without too many problems. Karen xox

  • Hi Orchid

I am using Moo Goo Udder cream and it is great. You need to use it about 3-4 times a day and can use it up to an hour before radiation. I also use Moo Goo deodorant as it is aluminium free. I have had four radiation treatments (need 25 in total) and don't feel any different to before I started it. I hope it continues!

    All the best

    Ady

  • From my experience moo goo is the way to go. Very moisturising and free from nasties.
