Radiation - 6 weeks completed with no tears ... some tips.
Hi all,
I just finished the standard 5 weeks of daily radiation to my right breast where I had a lumpectomy last June plus 1 week of daily 'boosts' to the tumour site.
The rad onc recommended QV cream and body wash. However, I had read on BCNA that people were having success with MooGoo Original Udder (haha!) milk/cream. It comes in a pump pot...I went through two bought at Pharmacy 777. I showed it to the chemo onc before treatment and he okayed. He said he knocks some alternatives back as they contain reflective metals.
I am fairly pale skinned with some feeckles, tan lightly if I use sunscreen, burn if I don't, dark hair and eyes. I applied the MooGoo 3 x daily, slathered it on. Then put on a loose fitting t-shirt I could chuck out later. At night I used the QV soap free bath wash for extremely dry skin...not just dry skin. In the day I didn't wear a bra as was at home. Going out I wore a soft bra to my appointments. I developed a pale sunburn colour around week two and my breast and nipple were quite warm after treatment during the last two weeks. Minor itchiness on collar bone. During the last two weeks the nurse told me to do salt water baths to the breast to remove heat and redness. These really work! Boil water, use 1tsp of salt per litre of water and mix in. Store in fridge. When cold, use a clean flannel and cover breast rad area/armpit and leave for ten mins. Pat dry and apply cream.
I know we all have different reactions and skin types, so this may not work for you. But my nurse said she was very very pleased with my results and had seen some very red angry breasts! She even documented MooGoo as an alternative for others. The rad onc said he was pleased and I should be too, as did the technicians.
Don't underestimate the salt water breast spas! When you take the flannel off you can feel how much heat it has in it!
I can send a pic to anyone who would like one - I know some people early on are really worried and I think most of WA has seen my breasts ... feels like it!
*Remember to ask your rad onc and that we are all very different in our reactions if you are thinking of giving it a try. Good luck with rad ... mine was great at GENESIS and it was a walk in the park after my chemo! xxx

- Jax1964MemberI am now 8 weeks post rad and spent the last 4 weeks crossing the Nullarbor on my bike.
I now have a dilemma with MooGoo. I love the stuff, it is brilliant for my skin and my boob looks almost normal... but... every time I put it on the smell sends me right back to the treatment days. It's like an unwelcome reminder every day :/ - Harvey1903MemberThank you for that advise. I will certainly be trying everything, and will post when I can with what worked for me. Still a few weeks away. Can you do anything pre radiation? Nice to have people who have been there and done that!
- viking1MemberGood luck, I am sure it will be easier each time. Rest when you get home. Thinking of you xxx
- FlaneuseMember@viking1 Thank you for the tips about radiation. It's ahead for me.
- JoeyLizMemberSkin looks great!
- SisterMember@viking1 Just checking that you know you've posted to the open discussions.
- viking1Member@steplightly good on you for helping the clinic with samples! xxx
@arpie I hope the itch stops soon ... the moogoo range also has an eczema and psoriasis cream. I notice the Skin Milk Udder Cream is a Class 1 Medical Device and cites as used following rad and chemo. I will google their web page as a lady showed me a tube in her handbag that I can't find in my pharmacy booklet...for scar tissue which I have under my arm due to axillary scar and tear from gym. If anyone is undergoing chemo, I actually used their scalp cream for bubs on my head to stop flaking. I think it helped ... am going to get dad some as he is bald and flaky. Better take those pics before I am back to white! xxx and hugs all. - kmakmMember@viking1 Thank you for the comprehensive response. Now that I'm in this world I'm curious about the different treatment everyone has. I hope the group therapy is nourishing. Non-cancer related things... what are those again?!

AWESOME results ..... they’ve only just mentioned the salt bath to me today, as I’ve developed a form of dermititis that look like acne on my upper skin area above the boob.
@Anne65 had mentioned Cortic - 1. ... a 1% cortisone cream that you can buy over the counter re The itchiness and dermititis .... so will try that as well.
I’ve always been a believer of salt water as a healing source ... so will definitely try that as well!
Yep, I am game for a pic, if you’d PM me. I’ve been taking before and after pics pretty well all thru since before surgery (at the suggestion of my brother if all people ....) and it will be very interesting looking back on it, after all the treatment is done and dusted.
My boob has been quite hot for a while and was very itchy 10 days ago ... and now the rash has started, is itchy again. I hope that is all that happens!
Hahaha I know how you feel about displaying your boobs to one and all at the drop of a hat ..... I didn’t realise that the gown I was wearing had ‘opened up’ in the waiting room before treatment, giving everyone a ‘flash’, particularly the gentleman in front of me with whom I was having a discussion!! (I have the gown opening to the front as I lie on the table for treatment) and to be honest, I wasn’t the slightest bit distressed when I realised it was open and showing the affecte$ boob! I Just laughed and said ‘Oooops’, covering up again! The gentleman also just laughed and said ‘I noticed!’
Well done, and thank you for your tips! - steplightlyMemberMoo Goo has an extensive range of products and I will sing its praises till the cows come hone I use body wash shampoo conditioner udder cream tail swat insect repellant sun cream and under arm deodorant Based in Burleigh Heads I have been to the factory and emailed their ceo and managed to get 100 sample tubes fir the radiation clinic I attended last year.
